The sport/recreation UTV market is growing so fast, you’ll need both wings and rocket assist to keep up with the innovations and advances in suspension, handling, power, ease of use and creature comforts. Alphabetically, Arctic Cat replaces its five-link Wildcat 1000X suspension with Robby Gordon’s link-less trailing-arm Pro suspension with one 4X and two new two-seat versions, and there are more surprises coming—maybe the turbocharged triple from its Yamaha-powered snowmobile? Bad Boy Off Road enters the recreation crew-cab market with its Stampede 900 XTR, and CFMoto adds the Trail 500 and 800 to its line-up. Can-Am rocks and shocks with its all-new 154-horsepower Maverick X3 Turbo triple in two 64-inch and one top-shelf 72-inch version, the X rs, with 24 inches of rear travel! Honda upgrades its Pioneer 700 line with paddle shifters and new Deluxe models and adds automatic mode to the paddle-shift 500. Kawasaki continues to upgrade comfort and expand versatility with its Teryx and Pro-FX/T lines.

Polaris upgrades its RZR XP 1000 lineup with new Ride Command and Rock Crawler LE models and pumps its XP and XP 4 Turbos up to 168 horsepower. The RZR S line grows to include the S 570. Polaris also greatly expands the Ace’s capabilities with the all-new Ace XC 900 and goes big with the 80-horsepower Ranger XP 1000 in several versions, including the High Lifter SE and Northstar HVAC, the first air-conditioned UTV. Polaris also adds a Hunter Edition General 1000, unleashes the 100-horsepower General 4 and replaces the Ranger ETX with a new Ranger 500.

Last and certainly not least, Yamaha adds revolutionary Fox X2 shocks to its Special Edition YXZ1000R (and new Sport Shift), which was the UTV of 2016 with its 112-horsepower, extreme-performance, 998cc triple with manual clutch and five-speed sequential-shift transmission. Yamaha ups the ante even further with its new YXZ1000R Sport Shift, a smart-clutch, paddle-shift version with Launch Mode, Dynamic Clutch Engagement and other computer-controlled shift programs for durability, efficiency and ease of use. It even automatically downshifts like a CVT but without the belt! Also, there are new EPS and SE Wolverines and Vikings.

New for 2017, Robby Gordon adapted his Dakar trailing-arm rear suspension to the Wildcat X and worked with King Racing on shock tuning. Not only is the X RG Pro the first UTV to sport King shocks, it has 27-inch ITP Ultracross tires on 15-inch KMC rims. Rear travel is actually less at 16.5 inches, but the trailing arms have no tire scrub during travel. A race cage is new too.
