— PRODUCT TEST —
SpeedStrap has been involved in the off-road industry for more than 15 years, providing premium cargo restraints for UTV, ATV, dirt bike and automotive enthusiasts. They’re out to protect our vehicles from damage while towing or toting with premium-quality tie-downs and accessories, such as the eight-piece, 1.5-inch UTV tie-down kit we reviewed in the June 2015 issue. SpeedStrap has come out with a couple of new products for RZRs, one of which is the tie-down kit for the Polaris RZR XP 1000 that is designed to be the simplest and most efficient tie-down kit on the market.

WHAT YOU GET:
The RZR XP 1000 tie-down kit has three major parts in a handy nylon bag. There are two 1.5-inch by 12-foot, three-point ratcheting tie-downs and a bolt-on D-ring that attaches to the front of a Polaris RZR XP 1000. This D-ring and the existing tie-down loop on the rear of the XP 1000 are used to secure your RZR to your hauler’s tie-down points via the two length-adjustable three-point tie-downs. Instead of four tie-downs, the XP 1000 tie-down kit uses only two to quickly secure the XP1K in place. Spring-loaded plates keep the three hooks on each ratchet strap in place until the RZR is unloaded. Two hook-and-loop SpeedStrap closures keep loose straps from flapping in the wind.

The SpeedStrap UTV 1.5-inch, three-point ratchet tie-down has a floating, twisted snap hook with springloaded safety lock like the two end hooks. The 12-foot SpeedStrap is available in red or black. The RZR XP 1000 tie-down kit’s front D-ring attaches to the mount for RZR accessory bumpers, so it’s not compatible with low-profile Bull or Extreme bumpers.

PERFORMANCE:
The RZR XP 1000 tie-down kit has super-high-quality ratchets with ergonomic, plastic-coated release handles and heavy-duty carabiner-style hooks. The front D-ring bolts on in mere minutes with two mounting bolts, and it takes a couple of minutes to adjust the length of the two 1.5-inch, three-point SpeedStraps to your hauler and RZR. Once adjusted to the proper length, they’re set for life, or until you add long travel to your XP1K. The ratchets work exceptionally well and are easy to release with the red handles. Pop the hooks off, and the RZR XP 1000 tie-down kit goes into the storage bag until the next ride. It’s super simple and effective.

The heart of all SpeedStrap ratcheting UTV 1.5inch tie-downs is this locking ratchet with its large, ergonomic ratchet handle and smaller comfortcoated release handle. Both are super easy to use.

THE VERDICT:
With this new SpeedStrap kit, it takes more time to lower the ramps and drive the XP1K onto the hauler than it does to tie it down. The SpeedStrap RZR XP 1000 tie-down kit is the simplest way to tow an XP1K, and the ratchets are super easy to ratchet down and release with the ergonomic handles. Also, using the kit’s front D-ring and rear RZR loop as tie-down points prevents scratching or buffeting the RZR’s plastic, as could occur when using the frame or cage as tie-down points. It looks cleaner too. The PURE Polaris Deluxe front bumper ($279.99–$399.99) already has a front ring, so owners could get away with two 1.5-inch, three-point straps for only $59.42 plus the cost of a storage bag. If your hauler doesn’t have tie-down rings, SpeedStrap 1.5- by 12-inch extensions are $8.46 apiece.
