The Can-Am Maverick Turbo is already quite a beast in stock trim. While it’s hard to imagine it having even more power, it is readily available from the aftermarket. There are also hundreds of other upgrades available to make your ride more enjoyable. We’ve picked 10 of our favorites to showcase here.
EVOLUTION POWERSPORTS STAGE 1 KIT
There are lots of options for re-flashing the ECU, and they all seem to produce impressive horsepower gains. Most re-flashes are designed to work with expensive exhaust systems and other performance packages. The basic Stage 1 kit from Evolution Powersports combines the Stage 3 ECU re-flash and a custom stainless Cat bypass pipe. The bypass pipe eliminates the catalytic converter, freeing up additional horsepower and substantially lowering the temperature radiating from the exhaust system. The Cat bypass eliminates pre-turbo restriction, allowing the turbo to spool faster. The bypass and Stage 3 ECU re-flash add a massive 23 horsepower to the rear wheels for less than 900 bucks.
STM POWERSPORTS MAVERICK CVT HOUSING BLOWER
We all know that heat is your clutch belt’s worst enemy, and this clutch cooling system is the answer. STM’s system utilizes a 240 CFM 12-volt inline blower that is installed into the stock air intake duct and mounted under the dash. The system is activated with a supplied on/off switch, but the stock system can still draw air through the blower when off without restriction. The STM kit is a simple, pre-wired, drop-in product that installs in less than an hour.
STM RAGE 6 PRIMARY CLUTCH
The new and improved Rage 6 primary clutch is perfect for low-boost turbo applications. The smallerdiameter main-shaft bearing allows for a lower initial take-off ratio, tighter belt deflection and smoother shifting. STM’s complete billet design outperforms and outlasts the stock primary setup. You can order a Rage primary long post to work with your stock secondary or a short post to align with the Tuner-driven clutch. STM clutches are custom-ordered with weights, springs and internals to properly match any horsepower or special application you desire.
$1440, Rage 6 Primary; $500, Tuner Secondary
DRAGONFIRE HARNESS ANCHOR
Harnesses are required by law in most racing organizations and should be used for any type of aggressive driving in your UTV. The Maverick two- and four-seat Turbo’s stock cage and seats are not set up for proper harness installation because of the intercooler pod. In the past, this might have meant cutting, welding or other sorts of fabrication, but not now. These American-made, bolt-in anchors provide the perfect mounting points and a comfortable belt angle, even with the stock seats. They are sold in pairs, so buy two sets if you’re dialing in a four-seater.
BLINGSTAR REAR CARGO RACK
If you use your Maverick for anything but racing, you’ve noticed the lack of a true usable storage bed. The Maverick bed lacks a tailgate, is too low and doesn’t really give you a place to secure anything. The guys at Blingstar designed a powder-coated aluminum rear rack that is contoured to the stock bed lines, raises the overall height and adds points to secure your gear.
LAZER STAR ENTERPRISE LIGHT BAR
If driving at night is your thing, a quality light bar like the Enterprise from Lazer Star is a must. The Maverick Turbo is extremely fast and can easily outdrive the stock headlights’ capabilities. Don’t be left in the dark. A quality light bar is a one-time investment that will last the life of your UTV. The Enterprise uses larger 10-watt LED bulbs to project massive
amounts of focused light exactly where you need it. The bars are available in spot, flood, or a combination setup that provides both. The 10-watt Enterprise is available in sizes from the 2.5-inch single up to a 50-inch bar that houses 26 of the 10-watt LEDs.
DWT MOJA-V TIRES
The stock, lightweight Bighorn 2.0 tires are really good in their element, but if you abuse them, you’re going to get flats. Out here in the rocky desert terrain, we really like DWT’s new eightply Moja-Vs. They are super tough and hold up to just about anything you can throw at them. If you’re looking for additional clearance, they’re now available in a 30×10, which just might be the perfect size for a Maverick Turbo. The tires are also available as a 12-ply runflat with military technology.
If you went with the fully decked-out X DS or X RS Turbo, then you already have some really trick beadlock wheels. But, opting for the $2500 savings of a standard Maverick Turbo leaves quite a bit on the table for custom wheels and other options. The new cast-aluminum Stealth-Lok beadlocks from DWT share the same super-trick look as the higherpriced, billet-construction Sector wheels without breaking the bank. What’s even better is that they are proudly cast, designed, engineered, tested and produced in the USA, creating American jobs. The Stealth-Lok is available in a 14×7 with 4+3 offset, which works perfectly on all four corners of the Maverick Turbo.
ASSAULT BOMBER SERIES MIRRORS
A good set of mirrors is one of the best investments you can make in any UTV. When properly contained in a race harness, it is nearly impossible to see what is behind you, and the Bomber Series mirrors change all that. They have been designed for anyone, from the everyday driver to the toughest racer. They provide great visibility and adjustability, and they will work on any 1.75-inch or 2-inch roll cage. They are made with a high-impact polymer housing with a replaceable mirror in case of damage.
There are multiple exhaust offerings from HMF for the Maverick Turbo. You can opt for the basic slip-on or go for the three-quarter system with a two-to-one Up pipe. The two-to-one Up pipe features a 1.75-inch merge collector that eliminates the catalytic converter for maximum performance. Of course, eliminating the cat’ is “intended” for closedcourse competition use only. The system is also available with standard cores or the Big Core system with a 2.5-inch internal core that drops exhaust pressure without excessive noise. The larger core and down pipe allow the Turbo to operate more efficiently, creating more power than the standard core size.
