2018 Can-Am Maverick Trail Test

Can-Am brought a group of editors out to beautiful Christmas Meadows, UT to test the all new Maverick Trail series, and it was perfect for giving us a feel for their capabilities. At the Bear River Lodge between 9,000 and 10,700 feet in light snow and forest trails, we really put these vehicles to the test.

At 50-inches wide this machine is made to maneuver through tight terrain that other UTV’s would get stuck in. The DPS model of the Maverick Trail comes equipped with auto locking front dif and lockable rear dif making it easy to handle tough trails. There are four trail models including the 800/800DPS/1000/1000DPS.

Because this is a 50″ vehicle it obviously has potential to tip over but Can-Am did make a few adjustments that help. The 90″ wheel base is 11.6″ longer than the closest competitor. This provided less forward and reward pitch for a smoother ride. The 42/58 weight distribution also helps the stability.

A trail-designed Torsional Trailing A-arm-Terrain (TTA-T) rear suspension was engineered to optimize both squat force and suspension calibration. The front double A-arm suspension with dual-rate Sachs twin tube gas-charged shocks virtually eliminates bump steer and camber changes while supplying an ample 10-in. (25.4 cm) of suspension travel for a comfortable and controlled ride.

The size of this vehicle and the capabilities it comes standard with give you the confidence you need on trails, even in light snow, over rocks, and through river crossings. Plus the Trail series was engineered to have a comfortable cab so you can enjoy your ride in all settings. The Ergoprint seats and adjustable tilt steering give you luxury comfort in such a rugged vehicle. Not only is it comfortable to ride in, but the Maverick can comfortably tow up to 1,500 lbs with its’ 2″ hitch receiver.

“The Maverick Trail side-by-side vehicle is built to outperform the competition and do so with unmatched blend of core strength, absolute agility and responsive control. Two Rotax V-Twin engines supply the new Maverick Trail vehicles enough muscularity to conquer different trails at varying speeds…

…Delivering predictable handling with little noticeable effort required from the driver speaks to the built-in nimbleness. We reward the driver and passenger with exceptional control, outstanding comfort and unrivaled on-trail capabilities, so they can remain focused on their escape from the mundane. Can-Am just made getting from point A to point B far more thrilling.”
