2018 DAKAR RALLY: UTV CLASS

UPDATED FINAL RESULTS

— The Dakar Rally is an off-road race that covers over 5,000 miles in South America. It’s a famous event that gets world class competitors from countries all over the globe. For 2018 the course ran through Peru, Bolivia and Argentina in 14 stages that took two weeks to finish.

This is the second year that UTVs had their own class. The other classes are dirt bikes, quads, rally cars and trucks. All of the machines are heavily modified to handle extreme abuse and to carry extra fuel, tires and supplies. Plus, having a navigation GPS display is a must.

Below are the final results for the 2018 Dakar UTV class. In each stage it was a battle between Polaris and Can-Am. There were Yamaha YXZ1000Rs also entered, but they didn’t make it into the top three finishing positions of the stages. At the end it was a Can-Am that took the overall win driven by Reinaldo Varela from Brazil.

We have a collection of photos here from Dakar for you to get a flavor of what the drivers had to go through. Preparing and repairing the machines was as much a part of the effort as driving across the many miles of harsh terrain.
