— The Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo gets all of the attention, because of the horsepower it makes. However, all of that horsepower is hard to use when the trails are tight and twisty. The X3 is so wide that it may not even fit between some of the trees. That’s why the Maverick Trail is actually a more practical machine for many people. Its narrower width allows you to keep the throttle on while cutting back and forth down a typical eastern trail.
That’s probably why Dennis Boyd started off with a 2018 Can-Am Maverick Trail 800 for his project build here. He didn’t need to focus on more horsepower, but instead made sure he and his machine would be well protected while getting through the tough sections.
His first order of business was installing a stronger custom cage from S3 Power Sports. He went with front and rear bumpers as well as side rock sliders from Can-Am Accessories. For more security behind the wheel he installed Beard seats and Dragonfire’s 5-point harness seat belts. He also used Dragonfire’s aluminum fire extinguisher mount.
Dennis went with Method Wheels and to round out the visual package he used a custom wrap by SCS. What he wound up with here is a sharp looking machine that can get through places that other custom UTVs can’t. He gets a thumbs up from the UTV Action magazine crew.
If you have a UTV we should take a look at then send us some photos and info on it. Email it to [email protected]
