2021 50-INCH-WIDE UTVs
2021 50-INCH-WIDE UTVs
The 2021 50-inch-wide UTVs are the most affordable sport and recreation machines, and they give you access to more trails than the most expensive side-by-side models on the market! These nimble, easy-to-handle vehicles are also the lightest and easiest to transport, because they fit easily in a full-size pickup. We gathered the most important facts on the 2021 50-inch-wide UTVs from all the top brands and put them together in this guide.
CAN-AM MAVERICK TRAIL DPS 1000
The Maverick Trail DPS 1000 joins a 976cc V-twin with 75 horsepower to a light, easy-handling 50-inch-wide machine with power steering. You can adjust the power delivery with the Sport and Eco throttle map switch on the dash. A more highly tuned version of the 1000cc V-twin engine produces 100 horsepower in Can-Am’s Maverick Sport 1000R.
The DPS 1000 is the only Maverick Trail DPS model that features full doors as standard equipment. It also comes with color-accented seats, variable-rate power steering, painted bodywork, 12-inch cast-aluminum wheels, engine braking and an unlockable rear differential that makes extremely tight turns easier.
Double-A-arm front and rear suspension offers 10 inches of travel up front and 10.5 in the rear using spring preload-adjustable gas shocks. The 4.5-inch instrument display moves with the tilt adjustable steering wheel and provides speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trips and hour meters, fuel, gear position, sport/eco mode, seat belt and 4×4 indicator, front and rear diff-lock indicators, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage and engine temperature. The Trail 1000 DPS is available in a new Octane Blue color for 2021, as well as Triple Black and Mossy Oak Break Up Camo.

HONDA PIONEER 520
The 2021 Honda Pioneer 520 is a new version of the Pioneer 500 recreation utility machine with a larger, 518cc engine, 43cc larger than the 500’s, and a tilting bed that can carry 450 pounds of cargo. This machine is perfect for width-restricted trails and confined work areas. It also fits easily in the bed of a full-sized pickup. Full of fuel, the Pioneer 520 weighs only 1065 pounds, so it has an outstandingly light, agile feel. The Pioneer 520 has a beltless, five-speed automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually with car-type paddle shifters. The transmission also provides predictable engine braking to all four wheels when in four-wheel drive. The drive system offers selectable 2WD/4WD, but not front differential lock. Longitudinal engine mounting orients the crankshaft front to back in the chassis, which routes the flow of power straight to the wheels without any right-angle detours, reducing power-train friction and putting more power to the ground.
This recreation utility UTV can tow 1000 pounds from its receiver-type hitch. Independent front and rear suspension with dual-rate springs and adjustable spring preload provides a comfortable, well-controlled ride. For convenience, the Pioneer 520’s side nets swing with the door. There is storage space under the seats and under the hood, and the cabin is surprisingly roomy for such a small vehicle. The contoured seats are comfortable and offer enough support for sporty driving. It’s available in Metallic Blue, Olive, red, white, camo and Moose Brown. Pricing starts at $9499.

POLARIS RZR TRAIL ULTIMATE
Several important upgrades set the 2021 Polaris RZR Trail Ultimate and the other 900cc Polaris Trail models apart from last year’s machines. Full doors, a high-clearance radiused cage for easy entry and exit, aggressive new RZR XP-inspired front-end styling and an improved interior make the newest trail models better than ever.
The Ultimate is the top-of-the RZR trail line, and it comes with Ride Command navigation, ride sharing and connectivity, Rockford Fosgate audio, roof, Fox Podium shocks, a rear differential with turf mode for tighter turns, painted bodywork, power steering, aluminum wheels, and LED headlights and accent lights.
Instant throttle response, 75 horsepower and agile handling make the 50-inch-wide RZR 900 Trail models a blast to drive. Front and rear sway bars, light weight and good weight distribution give the 900 a flat, sure feel in slow and fast turns, and it can slide controllably on low-traction surfaces. The RZR’s suspension is fairly firm, which is to be expected on a vehicle with 10 inches of travel, but it’s surprisingly compliant and comfortable on small impacts. The slightly firm settings let you push the RZR on bumpy trails, and it will handle G-outs and even some decent-size jumps without bottoming.
RZR XP 1000-inspired ergonomics provide impressive cabin comfort. See UTV Action’s full test of the RZR 900 here: https://utvactionmag.com/test-polaris-rzr-900-eps/

POLARIS RZR TRAIL 570
The RZR 570’s styling, cage and interior are carried over from the 2020 RZR Trail models, but it delivers exciting sport UTV performance for only $10,599. The 570 weighs just 996 pounds dry, so its 45 horsepower feels much stronger on the trail than they sound on a spec sheet. Polaris did a great job tuning the engine and the CVT clutching, so you get the feeling of a healthy engine that’s always pulling well in the right gear. The 570 scoots to 35 mph in low and gets to its top speed of 55 surprisingly quickly, even with two people aboard.
The 570 has double-A-arm suspension front and rear with preload-adjustable, low-pressure gas ZF Sachs shocks. There are 9 inches of travel up front and 9.5 in the rear, and front and rear sway bars keep the trail-width machine cornering flat. The seats are comfortable, and the cabin has enough room for two grown men, though it’s not nearly as roomy and luxurious as the latest XP 1000-based interiors on larger RZR models. The bed is bigger than the 1000s! The 570 also has a 1.25-inch hitch receiver, which adds a lot of useful utility value to this UTV. The 570 has steel wheels and unpainted bodywork.
