CAN-AM’S EV COMMITMENT
Can-Am doesn’t have a production UTV in our guide 2021 Electric UTVs, but it has outlined its commitment to EVs,, including electric UTVs. Can-Am’s parent company, BRP, plans to invest $300 million over the next five years to electrify its existing product lines by the end of 2026. The first product is expected to be introduced to the market within the next two years, followed by a rapid rollout across all product lines. BRP is developing its Rotax modular electric powerpack technology in-house, which will be leveraged across all product lines.
BRP is creating an Electric Vehicle Development Centre in Canada, as well as a development facility in Austria.
KAWASAKI’S EV EXPERIMENTS
Kawasaki recently revealed high-output electric and hybrid street sport motorcycle powertrains that could easily power UTVs.
POLARIS’S EV PLANS
Polaris recently announced a 10-year partnership with Zero Motorcycles, a leader in electric motorcycles, as well as plans to release a new full-size electric Ranger model by late 2021. Polaris plans to offer electric vehicle options in all product segments by 2025.
SEGWAY’S NEXT STEP
Segway currently offers its Villain sport UTV and Fugleman recreation UTVs with hybrid or gasoline power. The company’s extensive experience and engineering expertise with electric powertrains make electric UTVs a natural next step.
VOLCON’S BEAST & STAG
Texas-based Volcon has two electric UTVs on the way, and electric power is only part of what makes them special. Volcon describes the Beast (left) as “part side-by-side, part trophy truck”, “the largest sport UTV available” and “more useful than a pickup truck for work on the land.” No specifications or prices are available yet. The machine’s release is planned for summer 2023.
According to Volcon, the yet-to-be-released “highly configurable Stag blurs the line between utility and sport.” A convertible pickup bed and high towing capacity let this four-seat, 64-inch-wide machine handle a variety of tasks. Long-travel suspension helps it perform on all kinds of trails and terrains. Specifications and prices haven’t been released yet. The Stag’s release is planned for summer 2022.
YAMAHA’S EV FUTURE
Yamaha has not officially announced plans for an electric UTV, but with its extensive experience in electric powertrains, including new automotive power units approaching 500 horsepower, it is ready when customers are.

NIKOLA RECKLESS
The Nikola Reckless is an open-cab, four-seat sport machine with different styling than the Nikola NZT but has similar specifications and performance. Nikola markets the Reckless to military customers, but a civilian model is a possibility. Motors at each wheel produce up to 590 horsepower, the highest claimed power of all 2021 Electric UTVs. The Reckless has fully adjustable suspension with 18 inches of travel front and rear.

NIKOLA NZT
The Nikola NZT is a 72-inch-wide, four-seat sport UTV that is available with a heated and air-conditioned fully enclosed cab with power windows. A Rockford Fosgate sound system is standard. Motors at each wheel eliminate the need for a transmission and produce up to 590 total horsepower, the highest claimed power among 2021 Electric UTVs The NZT’s fully adjustable suspension has 18 inches of travel front and rear. Except for its 5250-pound weight, this machine looks ready to school gas-engine sport side-by-sides in most areas of performance. It’s only available as a four-seater for now.

TOMCAR TX3
Tomcar has been building vehicles for military special forces for years, and the latest models provide the most performance, capability and carrying ability the company has ever offered.
