The 2022 Four- to six-seat recreation UTVs let you get your whole crew and your gear where the fun, or the work, is in one trip. From sport-focused machines like the Yamaha RMAX4, Polaris General 4 and Can-Am Commander Max to utility-oriented models like Kawasaki’s Pro-series Mules, this guide has them all.

ARCTIC CAT PROWLER PRO CREW EPS/XT/LTD

The Arctic Cat Prowler Pro Crew EPS/XT/LTD seats six, and the front and rear passenger seats can be removed for more storage. For 2022, upgraded suspension boosts ground clearance to 12.5 inches on the XT and LTD. A new performance-tuned CVTech clutch offers increased performance, smoother low-speed engagement and longer life. Arctic Cat also improved the engine cooling system to reduce fan runtime and enhance engine performance. All models are equipped with an aggressive new bumper with integrated headlight protection and new aluminum, seven-spoke wheels. These 63-inch-wide recreation utility machines are known for comfort, quiet operation and refinement. All models are powered by a smooth, quiet, three-cylinder, 812cc, double-overhead-cam 12-valve engine with 50 horsepower. Selectable 2WD/4WD with a lockable rear differential provides go-anywhere traction. Independent front and rear suspension offers 10 inches of front travel and 9.5 in the rear.

The 2022 Prowler Pro Crew is available in EPS, XT and LTD models. The base model includes EPS, doors and 26-inch aluminum wheels. The XT adds a roof, 4500-pound Warn winch, heavy-duty front bumper, and 27-inch cast-aluminum wheels. The LTD includes all XT features, plus an overhead console. These machines can tow a ton and carry 1000 pounds in the cargo bed.

2022 FOUR-TO SIX-SEAT RECREATION UTVS

CAN-AM COMMANDER MAX DPS/XT

The 2022 Can-Am Commander Max DPS/XT are four-seat sport utility machines. The DPS model is 62 inches wide and the XT is 64 inches wide. Both are powered by a 100-horsepower, 976cc V-twin with Sport and Eco power delivery modes. Variable-rate power steering, double-A-arm front and rear suspension with front and rear sway bars, and up to 15 inches of travel give the Commanders predictable handling and the ability to handle rough trails at speed. These machines have fully automatic transmissions with engine braking, a roomy cabin that’s easy to enter and exit, full doors, unlockable rear differentials, and a tilting bed that holds 600 pounds of cargo and has storage compartments in its sides. The DPS model has 12.5 inches of front travel, 13 inches in the rear and comes with 27-inch tires, 14-inch steel wheels and a 4.5-inch instrument display.

XT models have 15 inches of travel front and rear. The XT package also includes 28-inch tires on 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels, XT front bumper, 4500-pound (2014 kilograms) winch, full roof, 7.6-inch digital display with keypad and LED headlights, and Oxford Blue painted bodywork.

The Can-Am Defender Max/DPS are utility-focused machines with seating for six. The Defender Max is available with a 52-horsepower, 650cc, single-cylinder HD7 engine or a 65-horsepower HD9 V-twin. The Defender Max DPS is available with a 65-horsepower HD9 V-twin or an 82-horsepower, 976cc V-twin with three drive power-delivery modes. These machines are 63.5 inches wide, and have double A-arm suspension with 10 inches of travel front and rear. DPS models come with power steering and cast-aluminum wheels with 27-inch tires.

The Can-Am Defender Max XT/Limited are utility-focused machines with seating for six. XT engine choices include the 65 horsepower, 976cc HD9 V-twin or the 82-horsepower, 976cc, HD10 V-twin. The Defender Max Limited is only available as an HD10. Both engines offer three power delivery modes. These machines are 64 inches wide, have double-A-arm suspension, and come with power steering and cast-aluminum wheels with 27-inch tires. The XT package adds the Versa-Pro bolster bench seat with reinforced XT seat skin and adjustable driver seat, HMWPE full skid plate, 4500-pound winch, XT front bumper, full hard roof, brake holding mechanism and painted bodywork. The Limited package adds a heated and air-conditioned full-cab enclosure with full-glass windshield, wiper/washer kit, full doors with electric windows, rear glass and full hard roof with liner and interior dome light. These machines can tow 2500 pounds.

HONDA PIONEER 700-4/DELUXE

The Honda Pioneer 700-4/Deluxes are 59.7-inch-wide recreation utility machines. Using Honda’s Quickflip seating system, the Pioneer 700-4 seats two, three or four to customize passenger capacity and cargo space to your needs. The Pioneer 700-4 is built on the same chassis as the two-seat Pioneer 700, which makes it very good for navigating confined areas and tight trails. The 700-4’s geared, three-speed, automotive-style automatic transmission doesn’t use a drive belt and also offers manual shifting with automotive-style paddle shifters on Deluxe models. Three drive modes include 2WD, 4WD and 4WD with differential lock. The transmission also provides predictable engine braking to all four wheels when in four-wheel drive. KAWASAKI TERYX4/CAMO/LE

Kawasaki’s Teryx4 seats four comfortably and is known for its durability and capability in challenging terrain. Base, camo and LE models come with power steering. These machines are powered by a 783cc, single-overhead-cam, 8-valve V-twin and have sporty acceleration for their size. Teryx4s also have very controllable power delivery thanks to Kawasaki’s automatic transmission, which features a belt-protecting centrifugal clutch on the primary clutch that also provides predictable four-wheel engine braking in 4WD.

The Teryx4 has an extremely sturdy reinforced steel frame and a protective front brush guard. This four seater is built on the same chassis as the Teryx two seater, which makes it more compact and easy to maneuver on tight trails and in confined areas than many four-seaters.

The Kawasaki’s soft, more upright seats and taller cage make it easy to enter and exit, and forward visibility is very good. Double-A-arm front and rear suspension with 8 inches of travel up front and 8.3 inches in the rear handles the bumps. Compression and spring preload-adjustable Fox 2.0 piggyback reservoir shocks are used front and rear. The Teryx4’s suspension provides a compliant, comfortable ride with good bottoming resistance. LE models come with painted bodywork, aluminum wheels, two-tone seats and a roof. Camo models have a roof and steel wheels.

KAWASAKI TERYX4 S LE

The four-seat 2022 Kawasaki Teryx4 S LE is a long-travel model of the original Teryx4. Double A-arm front and rear suspension with longer A-arms offers 10.7 inches of travel up front and 10 inches in the rear. Compression and spring preload-adjustable Fox 2.0 piggyback reservoir shocks are used front and rear. The Teryx4 S LE is 62.6 inches wide and retains the same 125.4-inch length as the original Teryx4, making it nimble on tight trails and great on mountain switchbacks. A fixed cargo bed provides plenty of storage.

Teryx4 S models are powered by a responsive 783cc V-twin. Power delivery is very controllable, thanks to Kawasaki’s automatic transmission, which features a belt-protecting centrifugal clutch on the primary clutch that also provides predictable four-wheel engine braking in 4WD.

YAMAHA WOLVERINE X4 850 R-SPEC/XT-R

The 2022 Yamaha Wolverine X4 850 R-Spec/XT-R are sport utility machines that seat four. A smooth, quiet, 847cc, eight-valve, double-overhead-cam parallel twin with plenty of torque provides the power. The fully automatic continuously variable transmission features a centrifugal clutch with a sprag clutch for precise power delivery, predictable engine braking and extra drive-belt life. Yamaha Wolverines have a 10-year belt warranty.

Wolverine X4s are 62.2 inches wide and have double-A-arm front and rear suspension with fully adjustable front shocks and self-leveling rear shocks. Both models come with a roof and 27-inch GBC Dirt Commander tires. Soft-touch knee areas add comfort.

The XT-R comes with a 4500-pound Warn winch and Tactical Black/Carbon Metallic painted bodywork.

YAMAHA VIKING VI EPS/EPS RANCH EDITION

The Yamaha Viking VI EPS/Ranch Editions are six-seat, 61.8-inch-wide utility machines powered by a 686cc, four-valve, single-overhead-cam, single-cylinder engine. The fully automatic continuously variable transmission features a centrifugal clutch with a sprag clutch for smooth power delivery, predictable engine braking and excellent drive-belt life. These machines can carry 600 pounds in their cargo beds and tow 1500 pounds. The air filter only requires service once a year, and the drive belt has a 10-year warranty. The EPS model includes power steering and aluminum wheels. The Ranch Edition adds Copper Metallic painted bodywork, a rear-view mirror, overfenders and under-seat storage. A roof is standard on all models.
