The longest off-road race in the world, the 2024 Dakar Rally kicks off today in Saudi Arabia. For 2024, there are a half dozen drivers and riders carrying the Stars and Stripes for all of us back home in the U.S..  Ricky Brabec (who also races a Honda Talon UTV in California) is a top rider for team Honda in the bike category along with teammate Skyler Howes from Utah. Four other motorcycle racers are from the U.S. at this years Dakar. San Diego’s Seth Quintero moved up to the truck ranks this year and will be a threat in that category as he was in UTV’s.

In the UTVs (or SSV as the FIA calls them) the U.S. has four drivers to cheer for. Reigning and two time champion AJ Jones will be going for the hat trick in his South Racing, RedBull, Can-Am Maverick X3. In another X3, Sara Price will be competing in her first of many Dakar Rally’s along side navigator Jeremy Gray, both are from So. Cal.

Mitch Guthrie Jr. returns as well in his Red Bull sponsored, VW powered MC5 car, racing in the Challenger class (another UTV category) and will be a threat from day one. Finally, Jamie Campbell, the owner of RaceCo in California will be piloting an Hydrogen powered SSV  that’s a collaboration between Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Toyota. The Japanese manufacturers are actively developing Hydrogen powered vehicles as an alternative to electric.

There are nearly 80 SSV entries driving some of the wildest and toughest builds to take on the near 8000KM, two-week long event.
