2024 YAMAHA YXZ1000R WITH NEW 6-SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSION

While going through the California Air Resources Board files, we uncovered some exciting news about what is to come from Yamaha. According to CARB’s April 2023 filings, it looks as though the next model year Yamaha YXZ1000R will have a 6-speed Manual and a Fully Automatic transmission option. While, the CARB web site does state that “ data may be incomplete” we think this is a logical evolution for the 2024 Yamaha YXZ1000R.

We think something like Honda’s Talon, 6-speed transmission, which can be shifted or left alone for the computer to shift, would bring new customers too Yamaha. We don’t know if Yamaha would use a dual clutch system like Honda does, or a single clutch set up like the older YXZs use. Either way, you can bet there won’t be a belt involved. We sure hope they don’t use the same sub transmission Honda uses as it has been known to fail.

Furthermore, the document states there are no changes to power output and the 998cc 3 cylinder, 4-stroke will still provide a power reading of 83.5 KW (111 HP).  What the document doesn’t show, is, if there will be any suspension changes or extra seats added.

You also have to keep in mind, Honda had the same CARB approval on the wider Talon 1000R Live Valve 4-seater over a year ago and it was only announced to the public last week.

We will probably know the official word from Yamaha this Summer so stay tuned.
