5 GREAT UTV TOOLS FROM HARBOR FREIGHT

UTVs are loads of fun, but they require regular service to be ready to take on rugged terrain. Every time we check Harbor Freight’s list of tools, we spot more helpful items to help us maintain, repair and customize our machines. Here are some we use all the time and one we’re looking forward to trying.

HARBOR FREIGHT PITTSBURGH 7 PIECE RATCHETING COMBO WRENCH SET

Ratcheting combination wrenches make it easier to tighten and loosen fasteners where standard hand wrenches are hard to use and socket wrenches won’t fit. What looks like a quick job can seem to take an eternity when you can only get a sixteenth of a turn on a bolt before to have to reposition a conventional wrench for another tiny turn. UTVs are full of tight areas where ratcheting combination wrenches come in handy, like battery compartments, seat base bolts, bodywork bolts and others. Harbor Freight’s Pittsburgh 7 Piece Ratcheting Combo Wrench Set is only $23.99 and includes 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, and 17mm wrenches with ratcheting and open ends. The open ends feature a 15 degree offset for easier access to hard to reach fasteners.

HARBOR FREIGHT LONG-REACH FLOOR JACK

Harbor Freight is a well known source of good, affordable tools. For example, they offer 33 floor jacks with prices starting at $27.99. Their Pittsburgh Automotive 2 ton Low Profile/Long Reach Steel Heavy Duty Floor Jack got our attention because its maximum lift height is 23 and 3/4”, high enough to get both front or rear tires off the ground at once on long travel sport UTVs like a RZR XP 1000, and it costs just $139.99, far less than many jacks that don’t lift as high. The long reach design and 2 ton capacity works well for pickups and trailers, too. HARBOR FREIGHT PITTSBURGH CLICK TYPE TORQUE WRENCH

We got very interested in a torque wrench when we learned Polaris requires RZR XP 1000 lug nuts to be torqued to 120 foot pounds and Can-Am specifies 74 foot pounds. That’s a lot, and knowing that guessing at high torque specs could mean broken studs or loose wheels, we decided to use the right tool for the job. Even so, many home mechanics try to get by without torque wrenches because they can be expensive; $85 to over $200 is common. Harbor Freight’s Pittsburgh 1/2” Drive Click Type Torque Wrench is just $19.99, and offers torque settings from 20 to 150 foot pounds with a metric scale also, making it useful for common jobs from properly tightening wheel lug nuts to cylinder head bolts.

HARBOR FREIGHT BAUER 20V DRILL/DRIVER

UTVs present endless uses for a cordless drill/driver, from removing or running in rows of fasteners on body parts or engine covers to drilling holes for mounting accessories, and even sanding or polishing. Harbor Freight’s Bauer 20V Drill/Driver is compact enough for work in confined spaces and powerful. HARBOR FREIGHT PORTABLE GARAGE

We don’t all have enough garage space to house our UTVs, and it’s painful to subject a cherished machine to sun, rain and dust. Harbor Freight’s Portable garage solves the problem for $199.99. It provides a 10 foot by 17 foot shelter to protect your UTV as well as an all weather work space.
