6 FEATURES OF SEGWAY’S VILLAIN NO OTHER UTV HAS

We’ve been waiting for the U.S. release of Segway’s sport UTV the Villain for years now. Well, for 2023 it will finally arrive in dealerships according to the latest info from the company. After reviewing their latest announcement and spec sheets, we have put together a list of features this machine will have that no other UTV yet does.

1

10-INCH TOUCH SCREEN

Screens are becoming more common in UTVs these days. It looks as though a host of features will be controlled by a 10-inch touchscreen mounted in the center of the dash. Plans are to have a mapping feature and group ride component similar to Polaris’ Ride Command system. This tablet works in conjunction with a large LCD instrument cluster situated right in front of the driver.

The Speed UTV is said to have a large mirroring screen in some of its vehicles. Time will tell to see which of these machines gets into customers’ hands first.

REMOTE STARTING

Via the Segway smartphone app and Bluetooth technology, you can start the UTV with your phone. The machine also uses a key, so we have yet to confirm how this feature will actually work.

3

2-INCH HITCH

Segway has not listed a tow rating yet and we would avoid any unneeded stress on the radius rod bolts. However, if you are just towing that big BBQ around the campsite or the garbage can out to the street, you should be OK using the two-inch receiver hitch. This is another feature said to be found on Speed UTVs.

4

DATA LOGGING

According to Segway, the smartphone app will log data such as speed,
acceleration, torque, power output, mileage, and more.  You will be able to see how a particular ride took place through several different parameters.
This info is stored in the app and can be viewed later. In real time you can also see the battery life and gas mileage until empty from the app.

5

CRASH SENSOR

The SMA (Smart Moving App) has the ability to detect a crash or rollover. If it does, it will automatically send a text message to anyone you set up as an emergency contact, giving them your precise GPS location.  However, the service does require your cell phone to have a 4G cellular connection.

REVERSE ENGINE

Segway installs the Villain engine opposite of the way most manufacturers do it. This places the CVT system on the passenger side of the vehicle. This really shouldn’t affect performance or belt access. When Segway releases its hybrid powertrain, it will probably explain why this machine has the engine/transmission situated in this manner.

According to https://www.segwaypowersports.us there are dozens of dealers all across the U.S. so we should see them out and about any day now.
