6th SXS ADVENTURE RALLY

6th SXS ADVENTURE RALLY

For the sixth year, promoters of the spring Moab Rally on the Rocks (ROTR) have also promoted a fall rock-crawler jamboree at southwestern Utah’s Sand Hollow State Park. The 6th SxS Adventure Rally had three days of guided rides on spectacular and challenging red-rock trails, a large vendor area with jamboree specials and product donations for raffles, Veterans Day observance, daily breakfasts by Camp Chef, a Friday-night dinner with raffle, and manufacturer and aftermarket demo rides. New for the sixth edition, Kawasaki joined Can-Am in conducting demo rides, and PRP Seats and Baja Designs sponsored a bonfire beach party and concert.

RED SLICK-ROCK THRILL RIDE

At the 2020 rally, there were 10 daily guided rides with two easy loops (Top of the World and All the Way Around), three moderate rides (Upper West Rim, Milts Mile, Fault Line/Lower West Rim) and four challenging red-rock rides (Double Sammy, Sliprock/John’s Trail, Plan B, and The Maze). All have spectacular red-rock formations, and the Maze and Plan B snake along the top of a beautiful escarpment with awesome views of the valley below. There are also open desert, dunes and sand-wash sections, which have been used in past WORCS courses, and there are plenty of obstacles not on the guided rides, such as the Chute at the end of Double Sammy and the Toilet Bowl by Plan B. Plus, local crawlers are making new rock trails every week.

Rally riders line up behind trail signs and are guided under a tunnel and into the dunes to trailheads. Departures are very well-organized, and each ride returns in time for free riding, signing up for demo rides or checking out vendor row.

BEYOND THE SCENIC AND EPIC RIDES

Rides take off from the rally headquarters with lunch on the trails, and they return around 2:30 p.m. to give rally-goers time to sign up for demo rides or check out the latest products from the many vendors. The HCR Racing SxS Adventure Rally presented by D&P Performance also has CST Tires as a major sponsor. Daystar, PCI Race Radios, Rugged Radios, Dynojet, SuperATV, Walker Evans Racing, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, Z-Broz Racing, Fuel Off-road, R1 Industries, Dirtees, Jack Daddy, Xericross and more kicked in swag for the Friday main raffle.

Double Sammy starts with two steep climbs, and rain before the rally made for great red sand and puddles on the slick rock.
COVID-19 guidelines were followed at the rally with mandatory masks in the vendor area and social distancing at registration.
New at the sixth SxS Adventure Rally, there was a Saturday night beach party, bonfire and concert, and the raffle was conducted between sets.

The seventh annual SxS Adventure Rally will be held November 11–13th, and registration starts July 1st at www.sxsadventurerally.com. Be sure to register early, especially if you’re going to rent a group campsite at SHSP. There is also dry camping along the Sand Hollow Reservoir. Hopefully, Honda and Yamaha will return with Talon, YXZ1000R and Wolverine demo rides. Online registration for the 2020 SxSAR was $135 per person and included a rally T-shirt, three Camp Chef breakfasts, and three days of guided rides with ROTR guides.
