ARIZONA GRAND PRIX SERIES STARTS JANUARY 16-17 2021

AZOP 8-ROUND 2021 UTV/ATV/DB RACE GRAND PRIX SERIES

Arizona Off-road Promotions (AZOP) announces its 9-round UTV/ATV 2021 race season, of which 8 count towards series championships. The 10th-anniversary AZOP GP season starts January 16-17 at Blythe, California’s, Shorty’s Sports Park, and registration is now open. Online registration ends January 13th, and AZOP has added a new Youth 570/1000cc UTV Restrictor Plate class. Since this is a new year, all racers under 18 years old have to have a new Minor Release form signed and notarized when you come to the track. Forms can be downloaded at www.azopracing.com, and new rules for UTVs, ATVs, and bikes are also posted.

Prescott isn’t on the series schedule for 2021, but there are six AZ rounds with the July round at altitude in Mormon Lake.

UTVs need the mandated number-plate background colors; UTV classes include Youth 170 Beginner (white), Youth 170 Advanced (red), Youth 170 Mod (yellow), Youth 250 (black), Youth 570/RS1 Restrictor Plate (yellow), Youth 570 Beginner (white), Youth 570 Advanced (red), UTV 700 (green), UTV 850 (black), UTV 900 (white), UTVNA 1000 (yellow), Turbo 1000 (red), Pro Turbo (blue w/white #s) and Pro NA (blue w/yellow #s). Light-colored backgrounds have black numbers, and black backgrounds get white numbers. For class championships, racers must compete in at least six rounds.

There are seven Youth classes from 170 to RS1 for 2021.

Youth 170 and 250 class entries are $70, 570 to RS1 entry fees are $100, 900-1000/Turbo UTV fees are $120, and Pro-class entries are $220 per race. Unclassified races are $20, and gate fees are $10 per person per day ($5 for 6-12, under 6 free). Trophies and pay-outs are 33% per class.

At the Blythe rounds, social distancing will prevent this kind of spectator attendance, and there are many Covid-19 rules posted on the AZOP website. Social distancing won’t apply on the track, though.

Being in California, the first round has special Covid-19 rules in place, including no food vendors on site, so bring your own food and drinks. Dry camping is available at the track for $30 per vehicle. Only one parent or pit support person can be at trackside during races, and no spectators are allowed outside of racers’ family members. See www.azopracing.com for more Covid-19 rules, equipment requirements, safety rules and more.
