WHAT IT IS:
Assault Industries designs and manufactures its line of aluminum UTV products to protect our investments, friends and family with heavy-duty components. Assault’s Quick-Release UTV Fire Extinguisher Kit is at the top of the protection list, and it has been track-tested by Assault-sponsored racers. Every UTV racing organization requires an in-cab fire-suppression system, and the Assault Quick-Release Kit meets the requirements, but everyone should have a fire extinguisher to protect their UTV investment.
WHAT YOU GET:
The kit includes two 1.75-inch anodized cage clamps, two clamps for the Kidde fire extinguisher and an ergonomic handle with a quick-release pin. Construction is 6061-T6 billet aluminum with military-grade black anodizing on the clamps and a red pull handle. Hose clamps with rubberized coating secure the fire extinguisher to the quick-release mounts. Fire extinguisher construction is aluminum with red powdercoating and a tough nylon valve. Instructions for fighting fire are on the extinguisher too.
It takes less than five minutes to mount the kit on the cage tube with a 5mm Allen wrench. Simply slide the cage mounts over the tube, clamp each over the tube by hand, then thread on the clamp-mount bolts. Slide the cool-looking Assault bolt covers and thread protectors over the bolt as you install the second bolt for each clamp. Now, pull the pin to remove the extinguisher so you can tighten the 5mm Allen-head bolts with your wrench or driver. By the time you read this, Assault will also have 1.875-inch clamps for the new Maverick X3 Turbos and Kawasaki Teryxs and 2.0-inch clamps for Can-Am Commanders, Maverick 1000s and Yamaha Wolverines and Vikings.
What’s really cool is that the lower or base mount on the extinguisher is notched to slide over the retaining bolt in the cage clamp so that the quick-release pin holds the Kidde fire extinguisher securely in place. Remove the pin, and the extinguisher is released to fight Class A (trash, wood/paper, plastic), Class B (flammable liquids and gases) and Class C (electrical) fires. Since a fuel or oil fire can spread quickly, Assault’s one-pin quick-release system is what you want in an emergency. We’ve put quite a few miles on our test units (1500-plus miles on one), and there is still no slop or rattle. Luckily, we haven’t had to use the Kidde DOT-approved, multipurpose, dry-chemical extinguisher, which also has one-pin safety plus a pressure gauge for quick-view status.
Assault Industries’ Quick-Release UTV Fire Extinguisher Kit may sound expensive at $169.99, but it’s the cheapest insurance money can buy. Solid mounts keep the Kidde extinguisher quietly in place on almost every UTV made. Exceptions are Honda Big Reds, Pioneer 500s and 700s (1.625-inch tubes), Polaris RZR 170s (1.25-inch tubes), and Rangers with ProFit cages. General owners can attach the kit to the top cross-bar, and Ranger owners can use the rear-harness bar.
