WHERE TO RIDE & RACE YOUR UTV: BITD PARKER 250

The Tensor Tire Parker 250 marks the first race of the Best In The Desert 2021 season open to UTVs, motorcycles, and quads. The biggest names in the sport are expected to compete as there were 250 vehicles entered in the drawing for start positions on February 3, 2021. The race will run four laps around the 63-mile course which includes notorious features such as “Osbourne Wash,” “Midway,” and the “Rock Pile.”

Austin Weiland will start third, behind Sappington and Blurton.

Not only is the Tensor Tire Parker 250 the first round of Best In The Desert’s 2021 season, but it’s also the starting round of the Maxxis Tires Triple Crown for UTVs, motorcycles, and quads. Once again, the Maxxis Tires Triple Crown will lead to a larger series bonus, making Best In The Desert the highest-paying series in off-road racing.

Registered racers for the UTV Turbo Class include reigning 2020 Best In The Desert Series champion Phil Blurton, going up against Sierra and Randy Romo, Brandon Schueler, Seth Quintero, Austin Weiland, Ryan Piplic, Christian Sourapas, Marc Burnett, Wayne Lambert, and more. The Pro Unlimited Class will see series champion Michael Isom challenged by high-profile names such as Randy Raschein, Chris Blais, Mike de Ley, and Robert Van Beekum while the UTV Pro NA Class already has 33 entries including perennial class champion Kaden Wells.

The Rally Class will also be exciting to watch with 29 racers entered including Honda’s Jamie Campbell and Gold Rush star Rick Ness making his way down from the snowy north to give it a go in the desert. Ness’s experience will be documented to be used as part of a new television series on the Discovery Channel later this year.

The Best in the Desert (BiTD) series boasts the highest payout at $220,000. BiTD has a six-round series for 2021, its Silver anniversary year, and the March 24-28 UTV Legends race is new for 2021. UTV Legends pits desert and short-course legends together on a special course designed to level the field, and it will have many non-race activities like one of three Pre-Fun Runs. In addition, the BiTD Triple Crown returns with the Tensor Tire Parker 250, an all-new Reno-to-Vegas “The Other Way” challenge, and the Bluewater Desert Challenge. In 2020, Phil Blurton won the Turbo Triple Crown and a $6,700 bonus, ten percent of the $67,000 total purse; total BiTD 2020 bonuses were $337,500.

At the Tensor Tire Parker 250, Friday will see Youth UTV races with the 170 Stock, 170 Limited Stock and 250 Modified classes racing for 35 minutes plus one lap starting at 1:00PM. Youth 570 Stock, 570 Modified, 800 Modified and 1000/RS1 start at 2:00PM and race for 35 minutes plus one lap. On Saturday, the UTV race starts at 1:00PM, with Cory Sappington drawing first start ahead of Blurton and Weiland.

Pro Desert class entries are $1,350, Sportsman classes are $830, and short-course entries are $410. Desert Pro classes include Turbo, Production, RS1, Unlimited, Sportsman and Rally; UTV short-course classes are Production 1000, Pro Production Turbo, Production 900, and Production 700/800.
