BLURTON AND QUINTERO WIN IN NEVADA

ON THE PODIUM: BEST IN THE DESERT SILVER STATE 300

Rescheduled from April, the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 was held June 25-27th, but not without drama from Mother Nature. A 10,000-acre wildfire threatened the finish area, so the course was shortened to end at Pit 6 at Race Mile 220 instead of 300. Held near Alamo, Nevada, the course was tight and twisty through woods and sandwashes and had faster sections with silt and rocks along power-line roads. Ridge routes also played a role with Sierra Romo and others driving off cliffs or nailing rocks in heavy dust.

Can-Am X-Team factory pilot Phil Blurton and co-pilot Beau Judge took the SS300 Pro Turbo win ahead of 45 other Turbo UTVs.

Phil Blurton braved the cobwebs, dust and shortened course to win his second Silver State 300 in a row with an average speed of 51 mph. The win adds to his Parker 250 overall and a second at the Baja Designs UTV Night Race. Blurton and Mitch Guthrie, Junior, diced early in the race, but Guthrie experienced over-heating problems and dropped to seventh after having to change a tire. Dustin Jones came through the pack to finish second almost a minute behind Blurton for a Can-Am X3 1-2. Branden Sims was third in a Polaris.

Branden Sims backed up his Mint 400 victory with a third at the Silver State 220.

Seth Quintero secured the win in the N/A Class, going back to back in the SS300 as well. Seth started in second position and quickly worked into the lead, setting the pace all day. With the SCORE Baja 500 being postponed again, entries were up to 43 in Pro N/A, and 2019 SCORE N/A champ Kaden Wells was second, some 6.5 minutes off of Quintero’s pace, with Dominick Gaglione third. Polaris took the top nine Pro N/A spots with a Yamaha tenth.

With 46 Pro Turbos, 20 Unlimited and three Sportsman entries, the total UTV starters numbered 112. The next BiTD race will be the August 12-15 Vegas to Reno Classic.
