— Taking a closer look —
Textron’s takeover of Arctic Cat hasn’t produced a new Wildcat or a wild, high-performance Stampede—yet. Many familiar models return, though Textron streamlined both UTV lines. Sadly, the RG Pro Wildcats and most Prowlers didn’t make the cut. Here’s a closer look at Textron’s 2018 sport and recreation utility UTVs.
WILDCAT X, WILDCAT X LTD & WILDCAT 4X LTD
The 2018 Wildcat X and Wildcat X LTD get a new race-inspired cage with intrusion bars. The four-seat Wildcat 4X retains the previous model’s cage. Otherwise, all the big cats share the 2017’s specifications. A 951cc, single-overhead-cam, eight-valve V-twin supplies the power. The suspension has 17 inches of travel up front and 18 in the rear using JRi compression-adjustable shocks on the Wildcat X and fully adjustable Elka Stage 5 shocks on the Wildcat X LTD and Wildcat 4X LTD.
The Wildcat X has Duro Power Grip tires, cast-aluminum wheels, half doors and Team Arctic Green bodywork. It’s $16,999. Limited models add full aluminum doors, a molded roof, beadlock wheels, aluminum front and rear bumpers, 27-inch ITP Blackwater Evolution tires and Dynamic Grey bodywork. The Wildcat X LTD is $18,499. The Wildcat 4X LTD is $18,999.
WILDCAT SPORT XT & WILDCAT SPORT LTD
The 60-inch-wide Wildcat Sport XT and Wildcat Sport LTD are powered by 700cc, double-overhead-cam, eight-valve twins. Double-A-arm suspension provides 12.2 inches of travel up front and 12.6 inches in the rear. Front and rear sway bars fight body roll.
The Sport XT is equipped with JRi ECX-1 compression-adjustable gas shocks, cast-aluminum wheels and half doors. It’s available in orange for $14,599. The Sport Limited gets Elka Stage 5 shocks with dual-speed compression (DSC) and rebound adjustability, full aluminum doors, color-matched suspension arms, cage and aluminum wheels, and a 3.2-gallon under-hood storage box. It’s available in Dynamic Grey for $15,999.
WILDCAT TRAIL, WILDCAT TRAIL XT & WILDCAT TRAIL LTD
Wildcat Trail models have the same 700cc engine as Wildcat Sports in a 50-inch-wide chassis with 10 inches of travel up front and 10.5 inches out back.
The base Wildcat Trail comes with steel wheels and half doors, and is available in Lime Green for $11,499. The Wildcat Trail XT adds electronic power steering (EPS), cast-aluminum 12-inch wheels and half doors for $12,499. It comes in Metallic White. The Wildcat Trail Limited includes the upgraded features found on the XT, plus full doors, under-hood storage and color-matched aluminum wheels for $13,499. It’s available in Charcoal Metallic.
STAMPEDE, STAMPEDE X, STAMPEDE 4 & STAMPEDE 4X
Stampede recreation utility UTVs are powered by 80-horsepower, 846cc, single-overhead-cam, inline twins. The two-passenger Stampede, Stampede X, and four-passenger Stampede 4 and 4X have tilting beds that can carry 600 pounds. Four-passenger models also have an extended cab with 170 pounds of capacity. Spacious cabs, contoured seats, full doors, power steering and long-travel suspension add comfort on all models.
Base models come with black steel wheels, Kenda tires, and Jet Black, Inferno Red or True Timber Kenati Camo bodywork. The Stampede is $13,999 and the Stampede 4 is $15,199. The Stampede X and 4X get 27-inch Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires, aluminum wheels, colored shock springs, color-accented bench seat, and Electric Blue or Bright White bodywork. The Stampede X is $14,799, and the 4X is $15,999.
The Prowler 500 is powered by a 443cc, single-overhead-cam, four-valve engine. It has a dual-range, fully automatic transmission, selectable 2WD/4WD and front differential lock. Its independent front and rear suspension feature spring preload-adjustable shocks. The tilting bed holds 500 pounds, and the machine can tow 1500 pounds. It’s available in red for $8499.
