Memorial weekend is the deadliest weekend of the year for ATVs. And Powersports a as a whole.
The 2nd deadliest day of the year for ATV related fatalities is 4th of July.
We know it can be easy to get in a caged vehicle and feel safe not wearing a helmet. However, the risk of fatality is still very real even with a cage. Stock cages aren’t made to withstand much more than a tip over. Debris like rocks, parts, and trees can enter the cab at high speeds. Without a helmet it is also likely to hit your head on the cage, the dashboard, or even the ground during a crash.
Helmets may reduce risk of death by 42% and may reduce the risk of nonfatal head injury by 64%. Yet only 19 states and the District of Columbia mandate helmet use by all riders. Just because helmets are not the law in your state, you should still wear one on all rides and encourage your children to wear them as well.
1 out of every 5 ATV related fatalities is a child. Since 1982, over 3,350 children under the age of 16 have been fatally injured in an ATV accident. Often 9 out of 10 ATV related fatalities occur when the victim was not wearing a helmet.
Please ride safe this weekend. Wear a helmet and encourage your kids to wear them as well. For more information visit LETS RIDE SAFE
