HOW TO AVOID GETTING FLATS!
SARGE McCOY vs. TIRE-EATING CACTUS —
Dear Sarge,
I have a 2014 Kawasaki Teryx4 and where I ride, the area is infected with small cacti that keep puncturing my Bighorn 2.0 tires. In our group, I am the only one who is constantly getting flats, and I am really tired of plugging flats. Sarge, considering where I ride, what would you run for tires? P.S. Since it is legal to run on the roads here in Montana, over half is on pavement, if that helps.

Private Jessie James, Bighorn 2.0’s would not be my 1st choice for cactus country. You would be better off with the original Maxxis Bighorns. The 2.0’s are smaller, lighter and not nearly as tough. The idea was to make a lighter tire. Something had to go, and that was tread size, depth and toughness. Since you ride so much on pavement, you should consider a DOT-approved tire like the 8-ply Maxxis Liberty or the AMS M1 Evil. ITP’s Bajacross, GBC’s Kanati Mongrel, running tire sealant from High Lifter or Slime and finding out how to avoid cacti from your riding buddies are also good options! 50 pushups Boot for abusing tires! Dismissed!
