— The Ryco Motorsports kit has everything you need —
When we first met the Ryco Motorsports guys, they had a super-trick turn signal kit for YXZ1000Rs, with six LED button lights on the front shock towers, at Moab’s Rally on the Rocks. They’ve come a long way with their street-legal kits for UTVs, and we got our hands on Ryco Moto’s very first turn-signal/horn kit for 2018–2019 RZR Turbo S/S 4s and all 2019 RZR XPs and XP 4s. These $380 kits are a bit on the steep side, but they include replacements for the Turbo S LED eyebrows that burn white and turn orange for turn signals and emergency flashers. These $150 LED eyebrows also upgrade and replace the blanks on all 2019 RZR XP 1000s and Turbos, including four-seaters. Here’s how to install these kits (with military-grade hardware) yourself and save on dealer-service charges.
On our Turbo S, we had to remove the four top mounting bolts for the Sub-Zero harnesses so we could remove both seats and get at the push-pin rivets and Torx bolts securing the center console.
Push in the rubber shifter boot and lift the center console; there is no need to remove it completely. Next, remove the front access cover on the hood and pop the plastic grill off via the two top tabs.
Remove the four Torx bolts holding the dash, and push the dash assembly towards the rear of the car. We put black duct tape on the cage uprights to prevent scratches.
Unfasten the hose clamp for the turn-signal assembly, thread it into its slot, and slip the rubber clamp cover in place. Affix the turn-signal assembly on the steering column in the desired location and tighten the clamp.
Thread the turn-signal harness through the large grommet in the “firewall” and route to the RZR instrument cluster. Do not attach any other harnesses at this time.
Noting the identification tabs on the turn-signal harness, attach the flasher relay, power/ground/fuse harness and brake-strobe interface harnesses.
Connect the horn wiring harness to the horn, and mount the horn to the frame. We used the top-right radiator bolt as the horn mount. Run the power/ground/horn/fuse harness through the firewall to the turn-signal switch.
Splicing into the hydraulic brake switch and connecting the brake-strobe interface harness is the hardest part. Disconnect the hydraulic switch from the master cylinder and undo the closest anchor to get some slack. Carefully slice the OEM tape cover and peel it back enough to slide a parallel tap (inline splice) between the brake-switch wires. Slide the harness wire through the grommet, plug in the interface wire and clamp the tap shut with pliers. Replace the hydraulic switch on the master cylinder.
Next comes the instrument-cluster indicator harness. Unplug the OEM instrument connector from the speedometer and pry the grey plastic cover open with a fingernail. Pop off the clear cover in front. On the top row of pins on our Turbo S, there were blue plastic pins in the #6 and #7 holes.
Remove them and push the pin with the red wire of the instrument-cluster indicator harness into the #6 hole and the pin with the green wire into the #7 hole. Make sure they’re firmly seated, install the clear cover and button up the grey housing.
Next come the LED accents. Each is held in by three push-on nuts. With a 10mm wrench, turn each metal nut while prying with a flat-blade screwdriver. Replace the OEM LEDs with kit LEDs and push the three metal nuts in place.
From the front of the firewall, run the front turn-signal harness with the four-pin connector through the grommet and connect to the corresponding loom on the turn-signal switch. Route the wires with the “L” tab to the driver’s-side LED and the wires marked “R” to the passenger-side LED. Plug each three-wire kit connector where the OEM connectors were.
Unplug the OEM left-rear taillight connector. Starting there, feed the Rear Turn-Signal Harness connector forward along existing wiring looms to the center console, through the console and firewall grommet to the turn-signal switch loom. Be sure to keep away from moving or hot parts. Connect the OEM taillight harness to the Ryco harness and plug the Ryco harness into the taillight.
Feed the right-side rear turn-signal harness through the rear bodywork to the right taillight. We used a grappler extension as shown. Plug the OEM connector into the Ryco connect and then attach to the right taillight.
Measure to the center of the rear fascia and drill a 1/4-inch hole for the license-plate LED. Feed the LED wires through the hole and the retaining nut, then tighten the nut with the LED facing down. Drill holes for the license-plate mount and attach it.
Run the LED wires to the right-rear harness and plug them into their connectors. After every wire was run and tested, we encased them in plastic conduits from Harbor Freight before securing in place with zip-ties. Silicone-sealing the grommet on the firewall is also a good idea.
Last, connect the terminal-block adapter harness to the accessory bung on the firewall as shown, with the black Y-wire going to the negative pole and ground. Connect the power/ground/fuse/horn loom and test your work. Secure all kit wires with zip-ties and replace the dash, access cover, grill, center console, seats and belts. Enjoy your turn signals, flashers, horn and street-legality!
