KAWASAKI MULE PRO-MX700 VS. HONDA PIONEER 520

How they stack up by the numbers

KAWASAKI MULE PRO-MX700 VS. HONDA PIONEER 520

This Kawasaki Mule Pro-MX700 Vs. Honda Pioneer 520 comparison looks at the driving experience and specs of two competing models to help you make a better buying decision. After driving the Mule Pro-MX around for a few months, we are just as impressed as we were back when we reviewed it in the September issue. It’s not the least expensive Mule available, but it is the most affordable one with independent rear suspension. Independent rear suspension, or IRS, is the feature a machine must have for us to consider it trail-worthy and a good work machine. For Honda’s least expensive work/play machine, we are highlighting the Pioneer 520 that we tested in the August issue. Honda does have a slightly less expensive Pioneer 500; however, that machine doesn’t have a dumping bed, which we feel is also mandatory for a work/play machine.

Yes, you can get two guys into the woods if you had to in the Honda, but with a 40-mph top speed, you won’t get there too quickly.

Honda’s smallest dump-bed-equipped UTV is a step above an ATV in terms of usefulness. You can carry two people, but only a little more cargo. A cargo rack up front would help.
Multiple convenient storage pockets are found on this low-cost Mule. There’s even more storage under the hood and seat.
We’ve learned to love the Mule’s headache rack. Along with its intended use, the rack provides good tie-down points for carrying tall items.
The Mule Pro-MX would make a great little hunt rig. It’s much quieter than the Honda.
