MASSIMO WARRIOR 1000 HVAC

MASSIMO WARRIOR 1000 HVAC

Massimo’s line of military-grade Warrior UTVs, billed as the toughest UTVs on the market, grows to five with the Massimo Warrior 1000 MXU-6 HVAC LSV. The six-passenger utility UTV with fully enclosed cabin has a high-volume air-conditioner and heater to take the sweat or frostbite out of extreme-weather UTV work and play. We tested the three-seat MXU in summer conditions and now check out the MXU-6 in winter wetness. All aboard!

HOW DOES COST COMPARE?

The new Massimo Warrior 1000 MXU-6 HVAC is $26,995. The Warrior 1000X five-seat UTV is $15,995, while the Warrior 800 is $12,995 and the 700 is $10,799. The Polaris XP1000 Crew starts at $18,099 for the Premium and goes to $20,299 for the Texas Edition. The Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 Northstar starts at $26,299. Polaris’ three-passenger 2020 Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar Edition is $23,999. The Can-Am Defender HD10 Max Limited is $27,899.

Warrior MXUs have completely enclosed cabins, so no amount of roost is going to get inside. An unlocking rear diff aids MXU-6 turning and protects turf.

WHAT EXTRAS ARE STANDARD EQUIPMENT?

Massimo has an impressive list of standard features that include two LED light bars, a 5,500-pound winch, LED headlights with halos, turn signals and emergency flashers, a horn, tilt steering wheel with variable-assist EPS, an electronic/hydraulic tilt bed with 500-pound capacity, side mirrors, rear-view mirror, independently adjustable bucket seats for six, and cabin carpet for reduced sound.

The Warrior MXU-6 1000 also has a glass windshield with wiper and washer, doors with sliding plexiglass panels, keyed door locks, an LED work light, rear windshield, and high intake ducts behind the cab. The HVAC unit has a vortex-type 48KW air-conditioning compressor with a refrigeration displacement of 66ML per rotation and an 1800–7200-rpm speed.

Warrior MXUs have an aggressive front end and all-metal body, along with LED headlights and LED light bars in the grill and on the roof. The MXU-6 has a 5,500-pound winch instead of a 4,500-pound one. Even the A-arm guards are metal.

HOW FAST IS THE WARRIOR?

It’s not as fast as the three-seat MXU, due to the added weight. The V-twin engine has serious torque and puts out 72 horsepower. It propels the Warrior MXU-6 up to 55 mph in high. It just takes a while to get there, hence the “LSV” (low-speed vehicle) designation.

The 500-pound capacity dump bed has removable sides and electric lifts, and the steel rear bumper has a no-slip step above the automotive 2-inch receiver and trailer ball. Travel is a tad under 10 inches, front and rear.

WHAT ABOUT THE DELIVERY?

The MXU-6 is super smooth. The CVT tuning and EFI throttle mapping are very well-matched, and the HVAC Warrior doesn’t do anything unexpected. The dash-mounted range selector is smooth but has a fairly long throw. The 2WD/4WD selector also has a locking diff position, and the MXU-6 is very sure-footed and planted in diff-lock and 2WD.

Massimo introduces the Warrior MXU-6 1000 HVAC, which is almost $1000 less than the 2020 Can-Am Defender Max Limited. The HVAC/heater system has been improved since we tested the three-seat MXU in December 2019.

HOW GOOD IS THE SUSPENSION?

It is good. Dual A-arms at every corner have a well-tuned shock, and travel is a tad under 10 inches. Shocks are sprung and damped well for the MXU-6’s weight, and the ride is on the stiff side, so it doesn’t blow through the travel and bottom easily.

All bucket seats are adjustable and very comfortable. A drink holder rides between the driver and center seat, and the locking doors have steel frames and maximum visibility. Check out the padded carpet with diamond-plate look.

HOW DOES IT HANDLE?

It handles like an off-road limousine. With a 123-inch wheelbase, the MXU-6 wheelbase is 8 inches longer than that of a Can-Am Defender Max. It turns more like a limo than a sport UTV, and there is a lot of high-placed weight with the enclosed cab, which adds to body roll. There is a stout rear torsion bar but no front. EPS assist makes steering effort light, and it has tight steering, but switchbacks will require one or more shifts into reverse.

Here’s the HVAC unit, which is easily accessible under the hydraulic bed with an electrical switch on the side of the cab.

HOW ARE THE BRAKES?

They’re the same as on the three-seat MXU. The extra weight of the MXU-6 makes them seem weaker, but they’re backed by impressive engine braking. Each 27-inch tire has a ventilated rotor and hydraulic two-piston caliper with braided-steel brake lines.

HOW ARE THE DETAILS AND COMFORT?

They’re excellent. All six bucket seats adjust independently and are removable. The driver’s-side rear seat sits above the battery and electrics. The rear center seat covers the air filter, and the right rear seat sits above the 12.7-gallon fuel cell and EFI fuel pump. Shoulder belts are comfortable, but the passenger hand holds are very high. The floor is covered with a very nice padded carpet to keep engine noise and heat out.

The full windshield even has an electric wiper and washer, and the full doors have lower plexiglass panels for extra trail vision and sliding upper panels for adjusting the side mirrors. They also have keyed door locks and inner and outer latches.

The high-volume air conditioning has four dash vents that blow cold or heated air towards occupants. It has a variable-speed adjuster on the dash and a heater setting. The hydraulic tilting bed has a control toggle behind the left door, along with a switch for an LED work light over the bed. The MXU-6 HVAC has a very well-thought-out cabin, and the carpet is so nice you’re going to want floor mats to keep it clean.

Vents deliver cold air in the summer and heat in the winter, and the dash has a variable-speed control. The 5,500-pound winch, rear-diff, HVAC and wiper-washer controls are on the left, while the turn signals, emergency flashers, horn and light controls are between the tilt wheel and range selector. Check out the USB ports.

WHAT IS OUR FINAL ANSWER?

Massimo’s entire Warrior UTV line is impressive, and the MXU-6 HVAC is its flagship. Comfort is astounding, and the machine is as capable of conquering gnarly terrain as the other 1000s. Evolution is rapid in the Warrior stable, with new ducts blasting air towards the driver and passengers. Being a heavy-duty vehicle with sedate acceleration, it’s an off-road limo for any condition except sand dunes. And, its list of standard features is longer than its wheelbase.
