A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE —
Michelin recently revealed a “smart tire” concept that uses no air, is made of plant-based recyclable plastics and has 3-D printed treads that can be changed to match terrain and weather conditions. The concept is aimed at road going cars and trucks. but it’s easy to see how UTVs of the future could benefit from the design.
The wheel structure is designed to absorb some shock in the same way a tire filled with air does that. The advantage is you don’t have to worry about getting flats. For UTVs the treads could come in a variety of patterns designed for hard dirt to deep mud.
Michelin can’t take credit for inventing this concept, because Polaris has already made a similar wheel and tire design that they offer for their military UTVs and quads.
