ON THE PODIUM: CRANDON CHAMP OFF-ROAD NATIONALS

YAMAHA’S GREAVES AND VANEPERENS WIN THREE OF FOUR

Crandon International Raceway, also known as “The Big House,” hosted the seventh and eighth rounds of the Champ Off-Road Tour (CORT) and the Polaris 51st World Championships over the labor Day weekend. Huge fields of UTV, truck, buggy and kart classes raced Friday through Sunday, with the Sunday event being the Crandon World Championships. On Friday, 33 Sportsman UTV racers and 21 170 UTV racers battled in Friday Night Thunder mains, with Speedwerx Arctic Cat pilot Mike LeTourneau leading every sportsman UTV lap, and Carson Greco taking the 170 UTV win. LOORRS regular Bronsen Chiaramonte won the 450 Mod Karts over brother Braden.

Mike LeTourneau won the Sportsman UTV class during Friday Night Thunder racing, ahead of Tim Christensen (Yam) and Jonny Hentges (Tex).

Saturday was the Pros turn at Champ Off-Road round seven. Pro Mod UTVs saw CJ Greaves take his familiar position in front of the 21-car field, but Rodney VanEperen was on a charge and passed Greaves on the sixth lap. VanEperen took his second win of the year for a Yamaha 1-2 and closed the points gap from Greaves to 10 going into the Crandon finals September 26-27. Scottie Lawrence was third in his Can-Am and almost got around Greaves for second.

CJ Greaves was second in Pro Mods and first in Pro Stocks Saturday at Crandon International Raceway.

Pro Stock UTVs had the largest field with 35 entries, and again CJ Greaves put his Yamaha out front. He battled early with Robert Loire (Pol), who faded to seventh, and John Holter (Yam) in later laps. Greaves took his fifth UTV win of the season ahead of Holter and Jason Luburgh (Pol). Greaves concentrated on Pro4s on Sunday for the 51st Crandon Worlds.

The VanEperens were on fire at Crandon with Rodney winning Pro Mods Saturday and Owen winning the Pro Stock World Championship Sunday.

On Sunday, Andrew Carlson took the 21 Pro Mod UTVs to school as he did at ERX2 Round Six, beating Luke Stubbs (Yam) and Elliott Burns (C-A) to the checkered flag. Kyle Chaney, who was fresh off of two wins at the Lucas Oil triple-header in Missouri, had a miserable weekend in Wisconsin, finishing 24th Saturday and 18th Sunday.

Carson Greco led 20 170 UTV racers across the finish line Friday.

In Pro Stock 1000s, again 35 UTVs took the green flag, and Owen VanEperen bettered his Saturday fifth with a big win in the World Championships for Yamaha. Scott Wasz was second in another Yamaha, and Speedwerx Arctic Cat’s Jack LeTourneau filled out the podium. Luburgh was fourth and Speedwerx’s Jeremy Houle was fifth.

Championship Off-Road Tour rules aren’t as strict as Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing, so racers can add turbos and compete in Pro Mod UTVs. This is CJ’s KOH 2020 turbo Yamaha.
