ON THE PODIUM: SHORT-COURSE RACING ACROSS THE USA

WELLER DOMINATES LUCAS OIL TURBOS ROUND 1&2

MYLES CHEEK AND BROCK HEGER TOP LOORRS PRO STOCKS

With the Lucas Oil Off-Road Race Series (LOORRS) finally starting at California’s Glen Helen Raceway, the Production Turbos started 2020 like they ended the 2019 points season with Can-Am’s Corry Weller leading Polaris pilots Ronnie Anderson and Chance Haugen the entire race. In fact, twice defending champ Weller was top qualifier in both rounds opening weekend, as she won Sunday’s main ahead of Anderson and Robert VanBeekum (Pol) and scored maximum points. VanBeekum had his radiator clog with mud on Saturday but sits tied with Haugen for third in Pro Turbo points after two rounds.

Corry Weller started her quest for a third straight LOORRS Pro Turbo title with a maximum-points weekend, with TQs and wins in both Glen Helen rounds.

In Production 1000s (Pro Stock in most series), Myles Cheek debuted a really trick RZR RS1 for 2020 and totally dominated the first round, scoring the top-qualifier points and the main-event win ahead of former champ Brock Heger and Robby Hornsby, both in Yamahas. On Sunday, Cheek stumbled in qualifying but recovered for second behind Heger, with Hornsby again third. The Production 1000 class was the biggest of the race weekend with 18 entries, along with 18 JR2 Kart entrants.

Former (2018) Production 1000 champ Brock Heger punted Hornsby out of the way for second on Saturday, then he won Sunday.

LOORRS’ next three rounds are in Wheatland, Missouri, on August 21-23.

Hunter Miller scored his second win in the last two Texas UTV Race Series rounds, and brother Cody took another two points from leader Kyle Hart heading into the final round.

HUNTER MILLER AND KAINAN BAKER TOPS IN TEXAS

Texplex Park hosted the Texas UTV Race Series’ seventh and next-to-last round, and Can-Am X3s again dominated the Pro Turbo podium with Hunter Miller leading brother Cody in the main with points leader Kyle Hart third. There was a big shake-up in Pro N/A 1000s, as points leader Collin Truett was a no-show and three-round winner Cody Martin suffered a mechanical in the main and finished ninth. Kainan Baker and his Polaris topped the N/A podium ahead of Honda Talon pilots Shawn Hess and Cross Kirchmeier, round-six winner. After the roost settled on the main, Hess had moved into a tie with Truett heading into the final round, with a $40,000 championship bonus on the line.

Kainan Baker has shown great improvement in N/A 1000 Pros, scoring a podium last round and the win this round.

Texplex Park has a unique racing format, as it operates several dirt bike tracks and has a heavy motocross influence. The Texas series runs a two-moto format like FIM motocross, with the first race having split starts and finishes by wave. The faster of the two race-one winners gets first pick on the starting line for the longer second moto, and the two races are combined for the overall finish. Low score wins and gets 25 points, second gets 22 points, third gets 20 and so on. The final round for the series is set for August 22nd, and Kyle hart leads Hunter Miller by 12 points in Turbo Pros.

Rodney VanEperen scored his first Pro Mod win of 2020 at the Championship Off-Road Tour of Dirt City.

GREAVES CHANEY AND VANEPEREN WIN DIRT CITY CHAMP OFFROAD

The Championship Off-Road Tour (CORT, or Champ) held its second round of the season in as many weekends at Dirt City in Lena, Wisconsin, and each UTV class raced mains on Saturday and Sunday. In Pro classes, bLU cRU Yamaha athlete CJ Greaves does triple duty in CORT, racing both Pro Mod and Pro Stock UTVs and Trophy Trucks both days. While Greaves won two mains at Dirt City, he wasn’t as dominant as the week before, where he was on the podium in every race. CJ won Saturday’s Pro Stock main but had a mechanical and wasn’t in the top 10 in Pro Mod. Yamaha’s Rodney VanEperen and Luke Stubbs went 1-2 in Pro Mod with Andrew Carlson (Pol) third. Greaves recovered for the Pro Stock win ahead of Owen VanEperen (Yam) and Jack LeTourneau (A-C).

Kyle Chaney won the Sunday Pro Mod muddy main at Dirt City, but, like Greaves, he was out of the top 10 on Saturday.

Factory Can-Am pilot Kyle Chaney scored the Pro Mod win on Sunday over Greaves and Scottie Lawrence for a Can-Am 1-3. Greaves came back to win the Pro Stock again ahead of Polaris pilots Robert Loire and Jason Luburgh. Arctic Cat pilots LeTourneau and Jeremy Houles rounded out the top five. Champ’s next round was to be held at Michigan’s Bark River International Raceway on August 14-16, but it has been moved to ERX Park, site of the first round.

Despite difficulties at the CORT Dirt City round, CJ Greaves leads Chaney by one point in Pro Mod, and he has a sizable lead in Pro Stock UTVs.
