PHIL BLURTON WINS BITD 2020 PRO TURBO UTV TITLE

ON THE PODIUM: BEST IN THE DESERT BLUEWATER DESERT CHALLENGE

Held in Parker, Arizona, the BiTD BlueWater Desert Challenge featured the best of the best, with a season-ending double-header to decide the Pro UTV Championships. One bad result on either Saturday or Sunday could have meant disaster. A record-breaking field of 334 teams vied of top spots, crown titles and huge prize purses on a 22.8-mile course.

After two days and six laps of racing, Phil Blurton was crowned the 2020 BiTD Pro Turbo Champion with his No Limit R&D Can-Am Maverick X3, following two impressive finishes at the BiTD BlueWater Desert Challenge. Without a doubt, Blurton’s season has been one for the record books, after finishing almost every race on the podium and winning his fourth-consecutive Vegas-To-Reno event. Coming into the final, Blurton enjoyed a 41-point lead ahead of Factory Polaris’ Mitch Guthrie, Junior.

“We came into this race with a pretty good points gap, but it was a double points round, which made it more nerve-wracking,” said Blurton. “My plan going in was, ‘We can back it down a bit,’ but after Day 1, 1st to 14th was covered by a 1-minute time spread. Thankfully, our Can-Am Maverick X3 was a rocket-ship all year long, and it makes things a little easier with such a great platform to race with.”

Can-Ams won both days of racing, with Christian Sourapas winning Day 1 by 5 seconds over Randy Romo (Pol), with Blurton less than 2 seconds behind Romo. Day 2’s Turbo Pro podium saw Austin Weiland beating Dustin Jones (C-A) by a few ticks over a minute with Branden Sims (Pol) third and Blurton fourth. Blurton won the highly coveted 2020 Best In The Desert UTV Turbo Production Class Championship as well as the Maxxis Triple Crown UTV Championship wrapping up an absolutely spectacular year with Best In The Desert earning over $23,000 in bonuses paid out on top of normal prize money, while Weiland collected a $7,500 bonus from the Maxxis Triple Crown.

Two Bluewater podiums with a 3-3 weekend was good enough to overcome points rival Kaden Wells’ 1-1 weekend for Seth Quintero to take the Pro NA 1000 championship by one point.

In Pro N/A 1000s, Factory Polaris’ Seth Quintero came to Bluewater with a scant 5-point lead over Kaden Wells, and it looked like wins both days landed Wells the 2020 BiTD Pro N/A 1000 UTV championship. However, with throwaways, Seth Quintero is the 2020 UTV Pro Class Champion by one point. Wells beat Brayden Baker by a little over a minute, with Quintero third on Saturday. On Sunday, Kaden beat Dodge Poelman by 47 seconds with Quintero again third, for two all-Polaris podiums.

Austin Weiland won the final BiTD Pro Turbo race of 2020 and collected a $7,500 Triple Crown bonus. Michael Isom (Mobbin Racing) is the other recently-crowned Champion for Can-Am Off-Road, winning the UTV Unlimited class.

Dallas Gonzalez took home the UTV Youth 1000 class win ahead of Ethan Groom and Kaden Danbury. The UTV 170 Class was won by TJ Siewers with George Llamosas and Jaxon Leaming coming home second and third place, respectively. In UTV Y 250, Travis Sallee from Barstow, California, was the class winner with Chaden Minder and Jack Gonzales tailing close behind. The UTV Y 570 Class was won by Kendall Felker followed by Ryder Hall and Chase Mankin. Finally in the UTV 170 Mod Class, future star Chase Mankin took the win with Deegan Gonzales and Jackson Mandle rounding out the podium.
