PRODUCT: H3R CAMO FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND MOUNT
WHAT IT IS:
H3R Performance specializes in automotive dry-chemical fire extinguishers and is breaking new ground with the first camouflage fire extinguishers. The MX250E sports a multi-environment EVOS pattern, a favorite with many hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, and the MX250M sports the unique Muddy Girl pattern, which mudders will like. Each extinguisher contains 2.5 pounds of dry-chemical fire suppressant and has a 1A:10B:C rating for common combustibles, like electrical and flammable-liquid fires. H3R also makes billet-aluminum and reinforced nylon mounts for MX250 extinguishers.
We tested the MaxOut MX250E extinguisher and NBR302 Extreme-Duty cage-mount bracket. The MX250E holds 2.5 pounds of the monoammonium phosphate (MAP) extinguishing agent, weighs 5 pounds total and discharges at a range of 9 to 15 feet. It’s listed and rated at 1A:10B:C by Underwriters Laboratories and has a handy charge-level gauge. The 3-inch diameter, rechargeable extinguisher is U.S. Coast Guard approved and has a six-year limited warranty. The NBR302 mount bolts to 1.75-inch cage tubes and releases the extinguisher with the pull of one pin. It’s designed to meet MIL-STD-810G standards and is tested to 27G inertial loads in all directions.
MX250 extinguishers have all-metal valve construction and high-quality steel cylinders made in the USA. The extinguishing agent is a fluidized and siliconized dry chemical that insulates Class A fires by melting at around 350 degrees; it smothers and breaks the chain reaction of Class B fires, and it won’t conduct electricity back to the operator. Also, MX250s are twice the size of most extinguisher/mount kits. The NBR302 mounts have fiberglass-reinforced nylon construction and clamp to 1.75-inch tubes with four-bolt mounts. Another nylon bracket clamps to the 3-inch extinguisher without obscuring the extinguisher’s instructions.
WHO’S IT FOR?
MX250 extinguishers are for racers and extreme off-roaders, or anyone wanting to protect their UTV investment. The Extreme-Duty bracket won’t corrode, while H3R also has billet brackets ($68.95–$82.80) and mounts for 1.5-, 1.625-, 1.75-, 2.0- and 2.25-inch cage tubes for $59.04 to $69.99.
The MX250E fire extinguisher looks cool with its EVOS camo wrap and is quickly deployed by pulling the pin ring for the Extreme-Duty cage mount. The red pull-to-release flag makes the pin easy to find and pull, and the extinguisher can’t be accidentally released without pulling the pin. We had no slop or rattles from the mount after many miles of rough terrain, and grime didn’t bother the nylon-steel pin-mating surfaces. We’ve had to clean and lubricate billet-aluminum mount pins after washing, so the $205–$220 total price is worth the extra speed and capacity of the MX250. Those wanting more bling will want the billet mounts for $70–$90 more.
