— PRODUCT TEST —
LS2’s MX437 is the latest generation of full-face off-road helmets, and it has an all-new shell with a large, filtered chin vent and top and side vents. There is also a line of Fast Mini helmets in sizes small through large for youths. LS2 designed the MX437, with input from its Dakar, World Enduro and motocross racers, to be a pro-level product with an affordable price.
WHAT YOU GET:
Each LS2 off-road helmet comes with a nylon helmet bag, care-and-cleaning manual and reflective decals for safer night riding. MX437s come in three different shell sizes for better fitment, and the cheek pads are 3-D laser-cut for all-day comfort. Fast helmets come in Race, Explosive, Core and Strong styles, with each style available in as many as five color choices. We chose Core Orange Chrome in XXXL.
The Kinetic Polymer Alloy (KPA) shell is super light at less than 3 pounds (XS–XXXL), which is a half-pound heavier than the tri-composite fiberglass MX442 (tested March 2015). KPA is ultralight with energy-absorbing flexibility, yet it has the penetration resistance of high-end composites. The shell meets or exceeds DOT and ECE standards, and Fast Core helmets feature channeled, multi-density, EPS safety liners for energy absorption and maximum venting. Cheek pads incorporate LS2’s emergency-release system, and the comfort padding has a breathable liner with a hypoallergenic treatment. The comfort liner and cheek pads are removable and washable.
The fit is excellent, and the MX437 Fast Core is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Chin and top vents channel cooling air through the shell and out two exhaust ports, and the shell’s base is designed to work with Leatt and other neck braces. Venting is excellent, and the liner does a good job of absorbing sweat (we tested it in 90-degree heat at Dumont Dunes).
The LS2 MX437 Fast Core is a stylish and very comfortable off-road helmet for ATV and UTV enthusiasts, and the large eyeport accepts a wide variety of goggles. Venting is excellent, and there are no pressure points that would make it uncomfortable to wear on long rides. Our only complaint is that the visor could be a couple of inches longer for better roost deflection and vision when riding into a low-sun situation.
