SLIME 12V GEN2 TIRE INFLATOR

PRODUCT TEST:

— Small compressor pumps up your tire —

Slime specializes in flat prevention with its lime green tire sealant, and Slime has also branched out into tire-repair and inflation kits and also digital tire gauges and Slime-tested tubes. We’ve used Slime’s Spair flat-tire repair kit (now $89.99) since November 2009, but Slime has since updated the inflator with a larger work light. We received Slime’s Gen2 tire inflator recently and put it through the usual (abusive) UTV Action paces.

FEATURES:

Slime’s 12-volt Gen2 tire inflator (#40050) has a compact plastic frame housing an air-cooled, 12-volt pump, analog pressure gauge and LED work light. It also has a large on/off button and adapters for rafts, sports balls and floaties. It fills a typical UTV tire in 8–10 minutes and is tire-sensor safe for use with modern automobiles.

Slime’s Gen2 tire inflator has a new body housing, a bright LED work light, psi gauge, on/off button, 2-foot air hose and 10-foot power cord with fuse.

CONSTRUCTION:

Black and silver plastic encases the air pump and houses the on/off switch, analog needle gauge, LED work light, and storage for the 2-foot air hose and 10-foot power cord. The 12-volt automotive-style plug has a fuse inside, and a weaved-nylon skin protects the rubber air hose. The air pump puts out 0.49 cubic-feet of air per minute.

WHO’S IT FOR:

Anyone who airs down tires for dunes or rock crawling and back up for desert and sharp rocks or carries a flat-fix kit on UTV adventures will appreciate this inflator with its LED work light. The Gen2 digital inflator adds the ability to set the desired air pressure, and then it shuts off automatically for another $6.

PERFORMANCE:

The Slime Gen2 tire inflator has an ergonomically-friendly case and easy-to-read analog gauge, and the LED work light adds versatility. It even inflates truck and trailer tires to 50 psi. The air hose’s plastic Schrader tip threads on easily, and the power cord is long enough to reach rear tires on four-seat UTVs. A top port houses the 2-foot air hose when not in use, but we have yet to get the power cord to wrap around its storage slot in the base and fit the 12-volt plug in its port in the bottom of the case.

THE VERDICT:

While the Slime Gen2 tire inflator isn’t the smallest compressor we’ve used, its size, built-in LED work light and psi gauge, and powerful 12-volt air pump make it a go-to when airing up or repairing a tire is needed to complete a ride. It’s great for low-pressure UTV tires, and Slime has a standard 12V tire inflator with 100-psi capabilities for $28.99, the same price as the Gen2.
