I recently purchased a Honda Pioneer 1000 and I just can’t seem to understand how this transmission works. I have followed the dealer’s advice exactly but I can’t get the DCT to shift from 2×4 to 4×4 differential lock unless I am almost stopped. Also, sometimes I can’t get the rear differential to release in 2×4 mode. Sarge, is there something the matter with my Pioneer? The more I ask questions at my dealer, the more I have come to realize they don’t really know what they are talking about.

Private Conman, Before you either burn out a clutch or wreck your subtransmission, STOP LISTENING TO YOUR DEALER! If you had bothered to read your owner’s manual Boot, you would see where it states NOT to shift from any mode to any other mode while moving forward. You need to be at a complete stop. Some dealers and their salesmen don’t understand the intricacies of the transmission and are inadvertently causing customers to damage their Pioneers. This is what you should be doing with your DCT Zooter Boot, as taken from the Owners Manual:
– High-Range: Used when driving forward on hard surfaces or with light cargo
– Low-Range: Used when driving forward with heavy cargo or towing heavy loads, when ascending steep hills, when driving over large obstacles, and when driving at a constant low speed (5 mph or below)
– NEVER: Change drive modes while the vehicle is moving, move the shift select lever with the engine speed above idle or while the vehicle is moving, use the throttle to hold the vehicle stationary on an incline, or tow too heavy an object.
Failure to follow the above Cautions Boot will result in you getting very intimate with a shovel digging Latrines for the entire Division! Dismissed!
