SHORT-COURSE UTV RACING IN WISCONSIN & CALIFORNIA
KING OF THE ELEMENTS UTVS LENA WI SHORT-COURSE MAY 21-22 2021
Short-course stars and future stars will have to choose between the King of the Elements Short-course at Lena, Wisconsin, or the Great American Short-course at California’s Glen Helen Raceway the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend; KOE races its third and fourth rounds on May 21-22 at Dirt City, and GAS holds its third and fourth rounds on May 22-23 in Devore.
KING OF THE ELEMENTS UTV SERIES
Created in 2019 by Johnny and CJ Greaves, Monster Energy and SxS Sports, the $150,000 UTV Series tested racers’ skills and speed on ice, supermoto and short-course tracks. Now called the King of the Elements, the 2020 UTV Series crowned Scottie Lawrence (C-A) Pro Mod champion and Rod VanEperen (Yam) Pro Stock champion, with both earning $20,000 in series cash.
The 2021 King of the Elements started with the Arctic Derby ice race at Eagle River on February 26th. KOE holds a short-course round on May 21-22 at Dirt City, and does another dirt-track round with jumps on September 17-18. The finale combining short-course and woods is To Be Announced at a later date, with each round getting more than $25,000 in payouts.
KOE is also a series dedicated to grooming future stars with Youth 170 classes, and it partners with Race-Driven Polaris/KTM for 2021 to introduce a new UTV 570 class that bridges the gap from 170 to Sportsman UTVs. Reid Votis (Pol) is the defending Mini 170 champion, and Dylan Marquardt (Yam) is the Sportsman UTV champ. SxS Mini and 570UTV entries are $50, Diva Sportsman and Pro entries are $5, Sportsman entries are $100, and Pro Stock and Mod entries are $300.

GREAT AMERICAN SHORT-COURSE SERIES
Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) promoter Lee Perfect and Hammerking Productions’ Dave Cole have joined forces to form a new Great American Short-Course (GAS) series, presented by Optima Batteries. The GAS series will have eight rounds in 2021 at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, Glen Helen Raceway and Wild West Motorsports Park. GAS is working on fine-tuning existing LOORRS rules; Hammerking adds new twists, and it’s well-versed at live streaming its Ultra4 events. The 2021 series begins at the SBC Fairgrounds in Victorville, California, April 10th.
Besides the truck and buggy classes, GAS will have six UTV classes – RZR 170, Youth 1000, Weller Racing SR1, Unlimited UTV, Pro Production 1000 and Pro Production Turbo – plus three Trophy Kart classes – JR1, JR2, and Modified. Check them out at www.greatamericanshortcourse.com.
Fridays before each doubleheader weekend are devoted to Team Move-in, Tech/Registration, and then three three-lap practice sessions per class. At the Victorville weekend, drivers must attend a mandatory meeting for media head shots. At 7:00AM on Saturday and Sunday, drivers must attend the Drivers Meeting, and 9:00AM-Noon is timed Qualifying for the afternoon Mains.
USAC National Licenses are $360 (GAS & COR Pro), GAS Adult UTV classes are $225, and GAS Youth 170, Trophy Kart and Y1000 licenses are $49. Single event licenses are $125 per event. Entry fees are $450 for Production 1000, Production Turbo, SR1 and Unlimited UTVs and $350 for 170, Youth 1000, and Kart classes. From those, $50 goes to each class’ year-end points fund, and 25-percent goes to event purses.
