SpeedStrap Tow Rope

WHAT IT IS: SpeedStrap Tow Rope

The SpeedStrap Tow Rope is 1-inch-wide, woven-nylon recovery strap that is rated at 10,000 pounds.  The 1/2- and 2-inch straps are also available. The 1-inch strap we tested is 25 feet long and retails for $55, but also comes in 15-, 20-, 30- and 50-feet lengths as well.

The beauty of this style of recovery strap is that it doesn’t use hooks and you don’t need traditional attachment points.

FEATURES:

Its unique design lets you create a loop at both ends by simply weaving it through itself for a metal-free recovery strap. Just wrap, weave and pull. When you’re done, unweave it and store it for next time. When not in use, we keep the strap rolled up in a thick plastic bag and store it next to our vehicle’s battery. We bring it on every test drive. Three weaves has been the magic number for the strap to not come loose in any situation.

If you are going to work on a car being held up by any strap, use a tire as a jack stand for safety. Roll it under the lowest part of the car near your work area.

VERDICT:

A tow rope is only good if you have the perfect place to hook it to. The places you can use a SpeedStrap are virtually endless. We put the strap to the test in several real-world situations. First, we lifted a UTV up on its side to change an axle, then we towed a broken unit five miles at 35 mph. Not only is the strap easy to attach to both vehicles, it’s also super easy to remove. No more knotted ropes or having to worry about a tow strap coming loose going down the trail. With the lack of hooks, the strap stows in less space, too, giving us another reason to call it our new go-to strap.
