UTV RALLY CLASS BUILD – PART 2

UTV RALLY CLASS BUILD About a year ago we featured a fairly stock Honda Talon with parts from IMG, All Balls https://www.allballsracing.com/  and HMF built for WORCS racing, as well as the UTV Rally class for events like UTV World Championships and the Best in the Desert Series. During the first few races in the car, owner Donnie Bales quickly figured out the weak points on the Talon, which are mostly in the suspension department, and upgraded his UTV rally class build. The constant pounding the car received…

The Most Reliable UTVs on the Market

Trying to determine the most reliable UTVs on the market is a little trickier than you might think. After all, your individual UTV’s reliability will partially come down to how well you treat it. Some owners love almost-trashing their vehicles when driving off-road at high speeds. And if you do not perform regular maintenance, you are sure to experience problems. You need to ensure you do not continually overload it; you need to change the oil regularly; and check things like shocks, air filters, and bearings. An under-tuned…

NEW UTV OF THE YEAR

NEW UTV OF THE YEAR We’ve had seat time in the last of the 2020 UTVs, and now it’s time to name the best. Once a year we sit down and look back at all of the new and completely redesigned models and decide which is the best new UTV of the Year. Honda won with the Talon last year, and Textron won the year before that with the Wildcat XX. This year, the New UTV of the Year award goes to—the Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000. Kawasaki took their time entering the high-performance market, and they did so by building one of the…

DRAGONFIRE RACING TALON 1000R

DRAGONFIRE RACING TALON 1000R Honda’s Talon 1000R and 1000X are gaining traction with UTV racers across the country, and Talons are climbing the Pro results in UTV racing in many series. We reported on Hess Motorsports’ Talon build and upgrades last month, and we got a chance to check out the DragonFire Racing Talon 1000R build and new products this month. DFR is all over the new sport Hondas and has the most complete line of safety, racing and upgrade accessories yet. Here’s what they’ve completed or are testing so far.…

SYSTEM 3 35-INCH RT320 TIRES AND SB-4 BEADLOCKS

Honda’s Talon has great traction with its 28x15-inch Maxxis tires, but the ride quality isn’t so great. Going to larger tires helped both ride quality and traction. With OEM tires growing to 30 inches on XP Pros and X3 Turbo RRs and 31 inches on the Teryx KRX, the aftermarket has gone to 33s and 35s. We got a chance to test the new System 3 RT320 in 35x9.5R15s on SB-4 beadlock wheels. The “RT” stands for “Race and Trail.” FEATURES: The RT320 is a non-directional race-ready tire with an 8-ply radial carcass and DOT…

YXZ1000R SS vs.TALON 1000X

-- Yamaha vs. Honda UTV shootout -- We have been waiting a long time for someone to challenge Yamaha and its manual-transmission-equipped YXZ1000R. After three years, old rival Honda came to the table with not one but two models that compare closely with the YXZ. With much excitement, we are taking a machine with the same width measurements of 64 inches, the Talon X, and putting it head to head with our favorite YXZ, the SS paddle-shift model. Enjoy the ride. HOW DOES COST COMPARE CONSIDERING HOW THEY ARE EQUIPPED?…

NEW STI HD9 4+3 OFFSET

STI expands its Baja-tough HD9 Beadlock wheel line with the new 4+3 offset applications in the popular 4/137 bolt pattern. This ultra-tough beadlock gives even more UTV owners access to the STI HD Alloy family. When used with the HD9 6+1 or 5+2 front wheels, the new HD9 4+3 rear application sets up the Honda Talon UTV with the same track width front and rear. It’s the best way to keep the factory stance on Talon UTVs. The HD9 Beadlock uses a 10mm thick beadlock ring secured by 5/16-inch grade-8 hardware for extra…

2019 HONDA TALON 1000R

-- Testing Honda's all-new performance UTV -- The most anticipated new SxS of 2019 is no doubt Honda’s Talon 1000R or the Talon 1000X. We took each machine on a full-day test ride, and this is what we thought of the 68-inch-wide $21,000 Talon 1000R. HOW’S THE POWER? It has really good power from the moment you stab the throttle all the way to a slightly premature rev limit at about 9,000 rpm. You can still feel power building when that electronic rev limiter kicks in. You feel the most torque between 4,000 and…
