6th SXS ADVENTURE RALLY

6th SXS ADVENTURE RALLY For the sixth year, promoters of the spring Moab Rally on the Rocks (ROTR) have also promoted a fall rock-crawler jamboree at southwestern Utah’s Sand Hollow State Park. The 6th SxS Adventure Rally had three days of guided rides on spectacular and challenging red-rock trails, a large vendor area with jamboree specials and product donations for raffles, Veterans Day observance, daily breakfasts by Camp Chef, a Friday-night dinner with raffle, and manufacturer and aftermarket demo rides. New for the…

ENDANGERED ROCKS

ENDANGERED ROCKS For more than 12 years, May has been the month of the Moab Rally on the Rocks (ROTR), but the 2020 ROTR was canceled due to COVID-19. The 13th ROTR will be held May 11th through the 15th and could possibly be the last ROTR, at least in Moab, which is a shame, because the same red-rock formations that have made Moab a motorsports mecca for rock crawlers also attract tourists from all over the world to the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. I hope we don't see endangered rocks stop the fun. I’ve been…

NEW $30 FEE TO RIDE IN UTAH IF YOU’RE FROM ANOTHER STATE

Beginning January 1, 2020, Utah will no longer have reciprocity with any of the other 49 states and have to pay a yearly $30 fee.  Owners of ATVs, off-highway motorcycles or snowmobiles, brought into Utah by non-residents, must obtain a non-resident permit for their machine. The Non-resident permit funds go directly back into our motorized recreational sport.  The permit fees are directed toward trail construction, trail improvements, trail maintenance, OHV education, OHV facility development, and enforcement. This…

SXS ADVENTURE RALLY

-- Where to ride guide -- Utah is an off-road Mecca with a wide variety of OHVing experiences, and the state hosts 10 major UTV/ATV jamborees a year, with eight utilizing central Utah’s Paiute Trail System. Two jamborees fall outside of the “State of Sport’s” major trail system—Moab’s Rally on the Rocks in eastern Utah and the SxS Adventure Rally in the national-park-laden southwest. Literally next door the Zion National Park and the Dixie National Forest, Sand Hollow State Park has been hosting the major rock-crawling…

WHERE TO RIDE IN UTAH

-- The state of sideways -- By Lumpy Dirt Bike magazine editor Ron Lawson once completed an amateur-special, alpine-mountain stage of the Tour de France bicycle race and wrote, “The scenery was breathtaking, but I had no breath to take.” Utah’s majestic mountains and red-rock formations are like that, but if you experience them in a UTV, you’ll have plenty of breath to take. I got to experience northeast Utah’s Uinta Mountains during a fall snowstorm in the new Can-Am Maverick Trail 800 and 1000 last year, and it was a…
