KING OF THE HAMMERS UTVs

The King of the Hammers (KOH) has earned the reputation of being the toughest one-day off-road race in the world for 4x4s. Ultra-4 trucks have tackled the desert and rock-crawling race for 14 years, and UTVs have been racing for 12 years at the Johnson Valley OHV Area, which is northeast of Los Angeles. In both the Ultra-4 4400 class and UTV class, five drivers have dominated the King of the Hammers, but 2020 would bring new winners to Hammertown, a sprawling city that springs up every February on the  Means Dry Lake. Tens…

DAKAR RALLY: SAUDI ARABIA

Can-Am put up a huge effort at this year’s Dakar Rally, supporting Team South and others. American driver Casey Currie raced for Team South and followed up last year’s Rookie of the Year title with a historic Dakar Rally win. Currie was the first American driver to take a class win. American motorcycle rider Ricky Brabec also brought home the top trophy for American Honda. Hopefully, both wins will encourage others to come back in 2021 and take on the very popular SSV (UTV) class. NO BULL…

-- Inside the Lucas Off-Road Racing Series Champ's Yamaha -- Defending Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) Pro Production 1000 UTV champion Brock Heger took three wins in the first four rounds of the 2019 season, and he was well on his way to a fourth win in Sparks, Nevada when he suffered a freak wheel failure. Rebounding, he again led the sixth-round 1000 main until the very last lap, where misfortune struck again and he limped home in eighth. The two devastating rounds took him out of a solid points lead and…

GLEN HELEN WORCS WARFARE

-- UTV racing update -- Round six of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) was hosted by Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California. The course was fast and rough with lots of jumps. Using much of the Glen Helen Motocross National track and REM/Vet MX track, the WORCS course also used much of the Lucas Oil Off-Road short-course, dirt parking lots, and a sand-wash woods section. Add the brutal heat, and the Glen Helen WORCS round waged a war of attrition on the UTV and ATV racers. This was the first UTV round since…

CORRY WELLER’S CAN-AM X3 TURBO

-- What makes the champ's X3 so fast? -- Corry Weller won the 2018 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) Production Turbo UTV championship in her Weller/DragonFire Racing Can-Am X3 X rs Turbo R, and she is leading the 2019 Production Turbo class after four rounds with three wins. LUCAS OIL OFF-ROAD RACING SERIES

Corry Weller is  the defending Pro Turbo Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series (LORORS) champion for the Arizona Regionals. The Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series is the premiere short-course racing series in America, and there are actually two national-championship series for 2019, as the Lucas Oil Midwest Short-Course League replaces The Off-Road Championships (TORC) series in the Midwest. There is also a California LOORRS Regional series, bringing the total to four series. The regionals have classes for 150cc, 250cc and 570cc…

XX, X3, XP OR YXZ GAMES!

-- How to improve the X Games -- By Tim "Lumpy" Tolleson I have an idea that would improve the X Games. The X Games have progressed to the point where they would benefit greatly from including UTV racing. Travis Pastrana grew the popularity of the X Games exponentially, just as early X Games shot his popularity into the stratosphere. Pastrana is now a world-renowned freestyle motocross icon, largely from his X Games-fame trifecta: ghosting his RM Suzuki into the San Francisco Bay, the back flip and the double back flip.…

WORLD OFF-ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

-- Hot UTV racing hits Arizona -- Round three of the UTV/ATV World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) schedule was held at Canyon MX in Peoria, Arizona, and Corbin Leaverton (Pol) and Matt Hancock (Pol) were big Pro-class winners. The Canyon MX round drew more than 149 UTV entries, and the course was gnarly, with plenty of rocks and cacti to punish those that overcooked turns. The Canyon MX course provided plenty of tabletop jumps, and most of the course was laid out on a large plateau adjacent to Peoria Airport, but it…

2019 KING OF THE HAMMERS UTV RACE

-- Can-Am Sponsored Event -- King of the Hammers has grown to be known as the toughest UTV race on the planet. However, there is only one name who has figured out how to conquer the now 160-mile rock and desert event—Guthrie. Mitch Guthrie and his co-driver Mitch Jr. have won the grueling event six times. Five of the wins saw Mitch Jr. in the passenger seat learning the ropes. After winning his second consecutive KOH in 2019, it looks as though Mitch Jr. has taken over the reins and is filling up the record books on his…
