FAST FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW: 2019 YXZ1000R SS SE

We've already begun testing Yamaha's extensively upgraded 2019 YXZ1000R SS SE and it's even more impressive than we expected. Here's some of what we've found out: -Yamaha wanted to make the 2019 more capable and comfortable for eastern conditions and they've succeeded. The YXZ’s tractability on difficult tight woods trails in Alabama was excellent. Thanks to a new lower first gear, you don’t have to be an aggressive driver to master tough trails with it, but there’s an insane amount of performance on tap for drivers who…

BETTER YXZ1000R SUSPENSION – Shock Therapy YXZ1000R Shock RX

Yamaha stunned the world with its puresport YXZ1000R, and we are mightily impressed with its performance in the dunes and early results in short-course racing with minimal modifications. Its suspension is set up for hard-core dune and race enthusiasts, and we never came close to bottoming its Fox 2.5 Podium RC2 shocks with the rear Bottom-Out Cup (BOC) technology at the Imperial Sand Dunes or the Arizona desert. Yamaha worked with Fox Racing to develop the exclusive shocks with oversized DualSpeed Compression (DSC)…

WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN: A racer and her machines

Corry Weller is no joke on a race track, and her SR1 championships in short course racing prove that. Weller's hunger to race began in 2001 where she pitted herself against male racers on motocross tracks. Around the time the Yamaha Rhino came into fruition in 2004 as a 2005 model, Corry and her husband Jason Weller had a feeling that a new bench mark in the off road industry was about to begin, so they started a company called Weller Racing. They focused on building UTV racing engines and by doing so, they built a brand…

TURBO YOUR YXZ1000R!

We featured the HCR Racing Long-Travel Suspension (LTS) kit for the Yamaha YXZ1000R in the March issue of UTV Action magazine, but development wasn’t completed in time for us to do a thorough test. HCR has since dialed in the King Racing shocks’ valving and spring rates, and King Racing technicians had the HCR YXZ up to 85 mph in deep desert sand whoops near Barstow, California! HCR has also added the Mountain Performance (MPI) 155-horsepower Turbo kit that we reported on in the January issue, and we got a chance to test the…

PROJECT: Dustin Nelson’s YXZ1000R

Dustin Nelson defeated Corry Weller in the 2015 Weller SR1 Championship racing series, so it’s a given that the long-time Yamaha ATV champion and LOORRS Pro Lite contender would switch over to the pure-sport Yamaha YXZ1000R for the 2016 season. He put his LOORRS Pro Lite truck up for sale and started testing the YXZ1000R for short-course racing. A long-time ATV racer, Nelson has several Quad-X championships and has campaigned the WORCS ATV series for several years, finishing second in 450 ATV Pro to Josh Frederick in…
