UNLIMITED OFF-ROAD RACING TRIPLE CROWN

The Mint 400 has held the title of the toughest and most spectacular off-road race in America since 1968, and it’s chronicled in Hunter S. Thompson’s book (and movie) “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Now the Mint 400 is one leg of the Unlimited Off-Road Racing’s triple crown with bike, buggy, car, truck, Ultra4, ATV, and UTV classes. Classes for UTVs are PR-100, Pro Big Engine, PR-100 Production, Pro Turbo, Pro NA 1000, Pro Unlimited, Pro Super Stock Turbo, Pro Super Stock NA, Rally Modified, Stock, Sportsman, Youth 1000, Youth 570, Youth 250, Youth 170, and Youth 170 Production. They even have military vehicle classes. For the last two years, the UTV World Championships have been part of the California 300, but Youth short-course will be part of all three rounds for 2024.

The Mint 400 Rugged Radios Drivers Meet & Greet is back in 2024! Join them on Fremont Street East in downtown Las Vegas as part of the Mint 400 Off-Road Festival from 11am – 2pm on Thursday.

Joe Terrana won last year’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Mint 400 Limited Race in a dramatic finish, crossing the line third behind Ryan Piplic and Bruce Binnquist but beating them both on corrected time. As was the case last year, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Race will feature everything from professional UTV racers to sportsman cars and trucks, military and vintage machines, and everything in between. Gates for the midway will open at 6AM on race day, with pre-runner classes leaving the start line at 7AM and car, truck, and UTV classes taking the green at 8AM.

THE CALIFORNIA 300 CAPS OFF THE UNLIMITED OFF-ROAD SERIES

Unlimited Off-Road Racing finishes its 2024 triple-crown series this
October 6th-10th with the third annual California 300, which brought back
desert racing to the Barstow area. The series included the Parker 400 in
January and the famed Mint 400 in March, and both are iconic events. The Mint
400 was first put on in 1968, years before the Barstow to Vegas Desert Classic,
to bring more tourism to Las Vegas. The California 300 starts off of Stoddard
OHV exit south of Barstow, and the start area has a Fan Zone with
manufacturer displays and vendor row.

Before the CA300, there will be a Desert Cleanup the Saturday before (Sept. 28th), spectator pre-run ride and
poker run, Contingency and Tech, an Off-Road Festival on Thursday, Youth
UTV races, Qualifying, and Pro short-course race before the grand finale 300.
New last year, bike and ATV classes were added to the truck, buggy, and UTV
classes. Open camping is free in the desert, so spectators can camp in areas
along the course and ride to check out the racing action at different spots along
the extended loop. There are a lot of ridges, canyons, and sand washes, and
past 300s have been on the tight and technical side, giving UTVs an edge over
larger, faster trophy trucks. We’ll see if that is the case for 2024.
