Top 10 Polaris RZR XP Turbo Upgrades

The RZR XP Turbo by Polaris is arguably the highest performance UTV, or maybe even overall powersports vehicle, you can buy off the showroom floor. At $25,000 for a two-seater and nearly $28K for the family wagon model, they’re truly costing a pretty penny for them. With an initial investment like this, we really wanted to dig into worthy aftermarket upgrades and see what makes them worth your hard-earned dollars.

1. TRINITY RACING FULL-SYSTEM STAGE 5 DUAL EXHAUST
Trinity’s newly designed Stage 5 system features fully Tig-welded, 304 brushed stainless steel mid- and head pipes. Dual-aluminum mufflers are available in brushed or black with 6061 billet-aluminum muffler brackets and machined exhaust tips, and USFSapproved spark arrestors. The midpipe includes threaded oxygen sensor bungs, and, best of all, they’re made in the USA with a five-year warranty and shave 6 pounds off of the Turbo.

2. STM TURBO INTERCOOLER RELOCATION KIT
The stock air-to-water intercooler uses engine coolant to circulate around the throttle bodies. Once the engine and coolant is hot, the intake air temps will rise rapidly, resulting in a significant loss of horsepower. The STM kit relocates your intercooler to the harness bar and extracts it from the actual engine coolant system, creating a stand-alone water-cooled intercooler. Drastically cooler intake temps will account for 10–15 more horsepower at average operating temperatures, and the kit includes brackets, hoses, wiring, a fan and radiator. STM also has Supertip cam arms ($289) and several Rage clutch upgrades ($1,590–$1,990).

3. CBR RADIATOR & HEAT EXCHANGER COMBO
If you’re going to race or even fully build out a XP Turbo, getting completely rid of any potential heating problems is a major concern. CBR has been building custom, oversized and race spec’d radiators and intercoolers for a long time now. Their parts are found on many top race trucks in Baja, stadium short course and even weekend warriors in Glamis. CBR has just released this full race-spec’d 31×14-inch Dual Pass radiator with a 12-inch Spall, brushless, drop-in fan and a built-in heat exchanger. This Turbo RZR-specific radiator allows for 30-percentmore coolant capacity, and its dual-pass design flows it through the core twice.

4. BMP PROGRAMMED BULLY DOG GT
Just like with your turbo diesel pickups, this is the real-deal way to extract big horsepower from your Turbo XP! When you get your Bully Dog from the guys at Bikeman Performance, it comes pre-programmed with their stellar dyno-developed custom tunes; you can also order new custom tunes down the road as your needs change. BMP can simply e-mail you the tune, and you can transfer it via micro-SD card. The LCD tuner also lets you monitor things like throttle percentage, barometric pressure, rpm, speed, battery voltage, coolant temperature, intake temperature, timing MAG, timing PTO, injection MAG, injection PTO, MAP sensor and engine load. You can also read and erase trouble codes.

5. K&N AIR FILTER & DRYCHARGER
The stock Polaris air filter does a fine job of filtering and stopping dirt from entering your RZR’s intake system. The only problem is the automotive-like paper design clogs up quickly and is not serviceable. In other words, once your stock paper element is dirty, it belongs in the trash, and you need to visit the dealer for a replacement. The K&N stock replacement filter provides additional airflow for increased performance, and, even better, it’s fully serviceable and designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle. The K&N Drycharger is a breathable, protective sock that will help extend service intervals by catching the bigger dirt particles, and it is also water-resistant for increased protection in extreme weather and creek crossings.

6. BEARD SUSPENSION SEATS & HARNESSES
The RZR XP Turbo is currently the highest-performance UTV you can purchase from a dealership. At 144 horsepower in stock form, a lot of customers might want to look at fine-tuning the comfort side of things long before looking for more power. A set of suspension seats from Beard will provide the ultimate in comfort, containment and increased safety. The Torque seat is designed specifically to fit perfectly in the RZR XP, and it will still use your stock adjustable seat bases. Match these up with a set of Beard’s latchand-link-style, padded safety harnesses for a fit that will keep you safely in place in any situation. $399, Torque seat;
$110–$130, safety harness

TurboTop7_FOX_UTV_INTERNAL_BYPASS_UPGRADE

7. FOX SHOX UPGRADES
The stock-equipped Fox Internal ByPass (IBP) shocks on your XP Turbo are developed to be the most cost-effective setup that will work decently in all conditions for most drivers. With that said, there are a handful of upgrades left on the table that can really make your car handle better for you specifically. From our experience, one of the most effective suspension upgrades is to add a true dualrate spring setup with an adjustable crossover. Another stellar upgrade is to add dual-speed compression adjusters; this ability to independently adjust both high- and low-speed ranges will maximize small-bump compliance and traction but still soak up the biggest hits or impacts.

8. PURE POLARIS RZR ALUMINUM ROOF
A roof brings more comfort than you will ever realize until you use one and then take it away. A roof will provide both shade and overhead protection from branches and the like. There are many reasonably priced roofs out there, but if you’re using a stock cage, Pure Polaris’s aluminum roof is going to be hard to beat! It installs quickly; if it takes you more than five minutes, you might need to find a new hobby or invest in power tools. It’s also built from durable 5051 aluminum and sealed off 360 degrees with insulation foam rubber that completely eliminates vibration. Polaris also sells a similar-quality, injectionmolded plastic graphic roof for $200 and lower door inserts for $399.99.

9. LAZER STAR LIGHT BAR
Quality off-road lighting is a big improvement on any new UTV. With the incredible performance and speeds that the XP Turbo is capable of, increasing night-vision capability is more important than ever. We’ve noticed the XP Turbo has the tendency to run a little on the hot side, especially in summer months when ambient temperatures are not on our side. We would highly recommend cage-mounting your light bar versus a bumper mount, which will block some of the air from cooling the radiator. We found a 32- to 36-inch to be possibly the perfect size for a stock RZR XP cage, and Lazer Star offers them in both 3- and 10-watt options. They’re also available in combination patterns with both flood and spot reflectors in the same light bar.

TurboTop9_ComlinkRTX-Includes-HiRes-2

10. COMLINK RTX VHF RADIO & INTERCOM
Proper communications make for a much more enjoyable UTV experience. Imagine being at speed and able to talk calmly to your passengers, as well as your friends who are driving other UTVs in your group. In the past, this meant a $600 intercom, a VHF radio kit and a complex install. Polaris has teamed up with PCI, “the leader in off-road communications,” to develop the first all-in-one unit to combine both radio and intercom. What’s even more impressive is that it comes in a complete kit with wiring, a mounting plate, antenna and push-to-talk button for just under $700.
