PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: TWIN AIR TALON FOAM FILTER

TWIN AIR TALON FOAM FILTER

One of the first things we noticed about the Honda Talon during long-term testing was how quick the air filter got dirty. After researching new options, we learned that an OEM replacement is pretty expensive at $50. That OEM pleated paper filter is disposable and cannot be washed or reused. The Twin Air foam filter can.

WHAT IT IS:

The Twin Air Honda Talon foam filter kit is a complete system that allows you to ditch the stock paper filter and use a washable foam element over and over again. To get the foam filter to attach in the stock airbox, the Twin Air system comes with a large aluminum plate that bolts in place on the stock backfire screen.

The Twin Air kit uses the stock bolts to hold itself in the airbox. It can be cleaned at least a dozen times, saving you hundreds of dollars in the long run. Pre-oiled, washable, foam replacement filters from Twin Air will set you back $46.95.

HOW DOES IT PERFORM?

Power-wise, the engine felt like it was running free but that was most likely the case because we replaced a dirty stock filter with a clean foam one. To save us time in the future, we purchased an extra foam element to keep on the shelf, so when it’s time, we can do the removal and replacement quickly and wash the dirty filter for the next time we change it.

After washing your reusable filter, it takes about 15 minutes to install or remove. New foam filters from Twin Air cost $44.95 for non-oiled and $46.95 for a pre-oiled one. Our kit came with the pre-oiled option.

VERDICT:

Any product that saves us money is a winner in our book. Basically, after three weekends, the filter kit paid for itself. As a good rule of thumb, a foam filter can be washed and reused about a dozen times or more as long as the foam doesn’t appear to be deteriorating. So, in a season or two, the washable filter will definitely save us some money in the long run.
