WHERE TO RIDE & RACE YOUR UTV: TEXAS REOPENS

2020 TEXPLEX TEXAS UTV RACING SERIES RESUMES

Texplex, the home track of WORCS Pro Turbo champion Cody Miller and his brother Hunter, is going big in 2020 with an eight-round short-course UTV racing series that has a guaranteed series cash purse of $110,000! There is also $20,000 in prizes and gear for the nine UTV racing classes – 170cc, Senior (45+), Under 1000cc, Amateur 1000cc, 1000cc Open, Turbo Open, Pro Normally Aspirated and Pro Turbo.

The series got three rounds in before the Covid-19 lockdown occurred, but Texplex was forced to close and reschedule the fourth round to May 2, with the park reopening May 1st after the statewide shelter-at-home order expires on April 30th. We’ll be at the fourth round and will report on the results May 4th. Social distancing will be in effect at sign-up in the pro shop and at the driver’s meeting.

Note from Texplex: We will have several protocols this weekend. Starting with online registration/entry required…reducing the number of people inside our building! We will allow only 2 groups inside at a time. Secondly, we are excited to have our FM radio transmitter broadcasting on 89.1 to listen to all the action from the comfort of your vehicle, that includes racers in the pits and spectators lined along the course in their vehicles. No groups more than 5 people, and our drivers meeting will be broadcasted on the fm channel as well. Social distancing is a priority for us and our families!

Texplex vows to have a different course for every round, and the series will award $40,000 for each Pro championship, $1,000 for six full-sized UTV titles and prizes and gear for the 170cc class. Pros will also be racing for $7,500 for second and $2,500 for third-place points. Prizes will be awarded by sponsors Can-Am, Red Bull, Tucker, Rigid, ITP, Big Gun, Motul, RideNow, Pit Proven Performance, Speed Graffix, Rogue Powersports, SMG Boats, Partzilla, and more.

All racing UTVs are required to have solid doors, race cage, fire extinguisher, 4/5-point harnesses, and helmets for driver and passenger. Entry fees are $250 per round for Pros and $100 for all other classes. Dry camping is $15 per night with registration opening Friday morning for Saturday heats and mains. Friday and Saturday morning practice is $25 ($35 if not racing), and gate fee is $20 per vehicle. New racers will get a 20-percent discount. To adhere to the distancing guidelines, it’s recommended that racers register online; go to www.texplexpark.com/utv-race-series and click on “register online.”

BEYOND THE UTV RACE SERIES

While the Texas UTV series will combine the Short and Long UTV courses for each round, the park remains open to non-racers on three Off-Road trails, mud trails, motocross tracks (Advanced, Vets and Kids), and the Pro-only supercross track. Texplex also has UTV rentals and Thrill Rides available.
