Yamaha has made a host major improvements to the comfort, drivability and durability of the 2019 YXZ1000R. Now, in stock trim, the 2019 YXZ1000R will be more suited for East Coast terrain and non aggressive drivers. However, racers and pure sport guys are taken care of too.
If you are more of a trail rider looking for a more mellow ride, Yamaha has also announced the 2019 Yamaha Wolverine X2.
The radiator has been moved to behind the passengers and dual fans have been added. This not only allows for better mud protection, it keeps the cockpit cooler as there are no longer hot water lines running between the seats back to the engine.
All four Fox Shox have been re valved and re sprung with dual springs and crossover rings to give a plusher ride at slow speeds while still providing great bump absorption for aggressive drivers and racers. These valving changes are found on the standard RC2 shocks as well as the X2 on the SE models. The dual springs and crossover rings are only on the SE models.
A new 8-ply, 29-inch tall Maxxis Big Horn tire exclusive to Yamaha, is installed on all four corners. This will add to the comfort levels that the new shock settings give, are stronger and two inches taller than before increasing ground clearance.
Yamaha’s removed the standard plastic roof and the ROPS has been reshaped to give an even better view out front for climbing around in the rocks up hills or in the dunes. A rearview mirror will come on the SE models. Only the 2019 Yamaha YXZ1000r SS SE comes with a roof. However the new ROPS square top will be easy for the aftermarket to pump out their own quickly.
The internal transmission gear ratio’s have been lowered 24 percent in first gear but with the taller tires, the final gear ratio is actually 16.7 percent lower than older YXZ’s. In gears 2 through 5, the new final gear ratio is 7 percent lower. Fuel mapping and throttle tuning have been adjusted to match the lower gear ratios. The SS model has had it’s half clutch time adjusted accordingly as well.
Every 2019 Yamaha YXZ engine will now come with the stronger GYTR connecting rods as stock equipment. This is a huge time and money saver if you plan on adding an aftermarket or Yamaha’s GYTR Turbo, high compression pistons or headwork down the road.
7 Yamaha did tell us that the brake rotors have been increased in size and will give increased stopping power. What they didn’t reveal was that they changed the bolt pattern of the 2019 model to a 4/156 bolt pattern which is the same bolt pattern found on Polaris RZR’s, Rangers and Generals.
