Z1R RISE CAMO HELMET

Z1R introduced the F.I. Hysteria off-road helmet in 2018, including models with MIPS (Multi-angle Impact Protection System), for $159.99. New for 2020, Z1R introduces the Rise Camo and Rise Camo Youth with similar styling, venting and construction as the Hysteria but at a lower price. There are also Rise Child, Rise Youth, Rise Adult and Rise Ascend models for $79.95–$99.95.

Z1R introduces the Rise line of full-face off-road helmets, which have many of the features of Z1R’s Hysteria helmets at a substantially lower price. We got the Rise Camo in red in XXL, and sizes range from XS to 4XL.

FEATURES:

Rise full-face helmets have similar aerodynamic shells as the Hysteria but with less vents. Rise helmets have dual forehead, chin and rear exhaust ports for cooling airflow, plus an open-flow mouth guard with wire aluminum mesh. There is also an optional Breathbox and vent plug kit for cold-weather riding. Rise Camo helmets come in red, blue, Desert and Woodland (green) Camouflage schemes and are DOT and ECE certified.

CONSTRUCTION:

Rise helmets have an injection-molded polycarbonate shell and come in XS, SM, MD, LG, XL, XXL, XXXL and XXXXL sizes, with the 3XL and 4XL sizes costing an extra $10. Inner safety liners are multi-density EPS, and fully removable, moisture-wicking polyester comfort liners and cheek pads have plastic snaps that lock them into place. The friction-type visor is long and vented for less wind drag, and the nylon straps have steel D-rings and a plastic snap to keep the loose end from flapping.

WHO’S IT FOR:

Anyone who wants an inexpensive, lightweight, full-face off-road helmet for UTVs, ATVs or dirt bikes.

PERFORMANCE:

We got a XXL Red Camo for testing. We’ve worn the Rise Camo on long rides, and it’s a very comfortable and light-feeling helmet. We got up to 90 mph without buffeting or the visor wanting to lift it. Venting is very effective, and the comfort lining is very soft and comfortable. We didn’t have to crush the EPS in the forehead area to get a comfortable fit, like we have on some other helmets over the years.

THE VERDICT:

At $99.95 to $109.95, the Z1R Rise has a lot of the good looks and features of the Hysteria at $50–$60 less, and we really like the camouflage graphics treatment, which isn’t available on the Hysteria. It’s as comfortable as it is stylish, even for long days in the saddle. Fit is superb. If you don’t like camo, Rise Ascends come in 9 three-color graphics treatments, solid black or white with Rise Youth or Adult versions.
