These compact vehicles also fit easily in a full-size pickup so they’re easy and economical to transport. CAN-AM MAVERICK TRAIL DPS 1000

The Maverick Trail DPS 1000 has a 976cc V-twin with 75 horsepower, and the Sport/Eco throttle map switch lets you tune the power to your driving style and conditions. Power steering gives this machine light, easy handling, and the roomy cab offers a low, comfortable seating position.

The Maverick Trail DPS 1000 is the only Maverick Trail model that features full doors as standard equipment. It also comes with color-accented seats, variable-rate power steering, painted bodywork, 12-inch cast-aluminum wheels, engine braking and an unlockable rear differential that makes extremely tight turns easier.

Double-A-arm front and rear suspension offers 10 inches of travel up front and 10.5 in the rear using spring preload-adjustable gas shocks. The 4.5-inch instrument display moves with the tilt-adjustable steering wheel and provides speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trips and hour meters, fuel, gear position, Sport/Eco mode, seat belt and 4×4 indicator, front and rear diff-lock indicators, diagnostics, clock, battery voltage and engine temperature.

The Maverick Trail DPS 700 is powered by a 52-horsepower, 650cc, single-cylinder engine, making it lighter than the V-twin Maverick Trail 1000 DPS. You can adjust the power delivery with the Sport/Eco throttle map switch on the dash. This agile machine has power steering for light, easy handling.

Maverick Trail DPS 700 comes with side nets, color-accented seats, painted bodywork, 12-inch cast-aluminum wheels, engine braking and an unlockable rear differential that makes extremely tight turns easier.

The CFMoto ZForce 800 Trail is powered by a 62-horsepower 800cc V-twin, and the dual-range, fully automatic transmission includes a centrifugal clutch that provides predictable power delivery and protects the drive belt. Standard equipment includes power steering with tilt-adjustable steering wheel and steering lock, doors, stainless steel bumpers, 14-inch aluminum wheels, mirrors, plastic roof, 3000-pound winch, cargo bed net, LED headlight accents and color-accented sewn seats. HONDA PIONEER 500*

The Pioneer 500 is powered by a 475cc, two-valve, push-rod engine with a belt-less, 5-speed automatic transmission that can be shifted manually with car-type paddle shifters. The transmission also provides predictable engine braking to all four wheels when in four-wheel drive. The drive system is selectable 2WD/4WD, but not front differential lock. This machine doesn’t have power steering, but its light weight makes it easy to handle.

This recreation utility UTV has a rear rack that can carry 450 pounds, and it can tow 1000 pounds from its receiver-type hitch. Independent front and rear suspension with dual-rate springs and adjustable spring preload provides a comfortable, well-controlled ride. For convenience, the Pioneer 500’s side nets swing with the door. There is storage space under the seats and under the hood, and the cabin is surprisingly roomy for such a small vehicle. The contoured seats are comfortable and offer enough support for sporty driving.

HONDA PIONEER 520*

Based on the Pioneer 500, the Pioneer 520 recreation/utility machine includes more power and a tilting bed that can hold 450 pounds of cargo. A 518cc engine, 43cc larger than the 500’s, provides the power. Full of fuel, the Pioneer 520 weighs only 1065 pounds, so it’s easy to handle even though it doesn’t have power steering. The Pioneer 520 has a belt-less, five-speed automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually with car-type paddle shifters. The transmission also provides predictable engine braking to all four wheels when in four-wheel drive. The drive system features selectable 2WD/4WD, but not front differential lock.

POLARIS RZR TRAIL ULTIMATE/PREMIUM

The Polaris RZR Trail Ultimate/Premium feature full doors, a high-clearance radiused cage for easy entry and exit, aggressive RZR XP-inspired front-end styling and a roomy interior.

The Ultimate is the best equipped RZR Trail model. It comes with Ride Command navigation, ride sharing and connectivity, Rockford Fosgate audio, roof, Fox Podium shocks, a rear differential with Turf mode for tighter turns, painted bodywork, power steering, aluminum wheels and LED headlights and accent lights.

The RZR Trail Premium comes with painted bodywork, power steering, aluminum wheels, LED headlights and accent lights. Instant throttle response, 75 horsepower and agile handling make the 50-inch-wide RZR 900 Trail models a blast to drive. Front and rear sway bars, light weight and good weight distribution give the 900 a flat, sure feel in slow and fast turns, and it can slide controllably on low-traction surfaces. The RZR’s suspension is fairly firm, which is to be expected on a vehicle with 10 inches of travel, but it’s surprisingly compliant and comfortable on small impacts. The slightly firm settings let you push the RZR on bumpy trails, and it will handle G-outs and even some decent-size jumps without bottoming.
