HUNSAKER QUIKFILL FUEL JUGS

WHAT IT IS:

Hunsaker USA is well known in the off-road racing world for the 11-gallon QuikFill fuel jugs that many racers use to fuel their cars. Hunsaker has taken the design and shrunk it down to both 5- and 8-gallon models that better fit the recreational market. These are very high-quality, fuel-specific cans that can dump up to 11 gallons in under eight seconds.

FEATURES:

All three sizes feature a stepped pour spout that can be enlarged from 1.25-inch OD threaded spout to 2.25 inches, and even 3.0 inches OD for quicker flow. All models, even the smaller 5-gallon one, include the reinforced, full-length, Hunsaker 1 3/8-inch ID breather tube that doubles as a handle and an additional fill location. The cans are offered in an opaque white with exact gallon markings molded in on the side for easy visual measuring.

The Hunsaker QuikFill fuel jugs have a solid base for upright transport and a security slot to lock them down through the gripping handle for theft prevention. They are also warranted against leaking or cracking

The 8-gallon Hunsaker jug is the perfect size for UTVs, and all three jugs have a full-length vent tube with vented cap for use as a handle and filler.

OPTIONS AND UPGRADES:

All three sizes of cans can be ordered with the tapered-down, threaded spout, or, if you prefer, you can specify which size you want and they will prep them for you. There are a couple different filler-hose options. For the smaller threaded setup, you can get a 1.25 x 1.0 threaded spout nozzle with a 3/4 nozzle adapter for stock-vehicle fuel necks. This is also available with a ball-valve option.

For higher-speed filling on your UTV, Hunsaker offers a 2.25 ID hose kit that can taper down to 2.0, 1.75 or 1.5 to suit any filling setup. They also offer a male Red Head setup for DryBreak-type fueling. While not extremely practical for the UTV market, Hunsaker even offers a 3.0 x 3.0-inch fueling hose setup for even faster fill times.

WHO ARE THEY FOR?

Hunsaker truly makes a fuel jug for anyone with any type of fueling need.  The 11-gallon fuel jug is great for the racer looking to fuel an oversized fuel cell in a hurry. While this can will work pretty well for the recreational UTV market, it is pretty heavy to manhandle when full of fuel. This is where the 8-gallon becomes a really cool option. At 8 gallons, it will fuel a stock UTV from less than a quarter tank to full, yet its size and weight are more manageable than the 11.

The 5-gallon fuel jug really opens up endless possibilities. Just about anyone that fuels anything with a fuel jug can benefit from this can over a basic fuel jug. It’s easier to carry, easier and quicker to dump fuel, it’s spill-proof when capped off, and it will last a lot longer than anything else out there on the market. If you fill a car, boat, quad, UTV or a lawnmower, you will appreciate this jug.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

Between racing the local AVE desert races and the SCORE Baja series, we knew that we really wanted an 11-gallon, quick-dump fuel can. We had been getting our butts handed to us in the pits using painfully slow, old-school 5-gallon fuel cans. The Hunsaker QuikFill jug was the perfect answer, but we were completely unaware of the 5- and 8-gallon options. The 8-gallon was sent to us with the smaller threaded nozzle still on it. It works great as a basic all-around fuel jug, and then we opted to cut it down to the 2.25 option for a backup fuel jug at the races.

For a decent-sized adult male, the 11-gallon race jug is manageable but a safer bet with an additional set of hands. The 8-gallon option is a lot easier to handle and can easily be done by one person. We have left the smaller neck on the 5-gallon jug and really appreciate the optional ball-valve closure. If you don’t need it for racing purposes, you will want to keep the smaller, more versatile threaded nozzle on the 8-gallon can as well.

We are completely sold on this product and hope to never go back to fueling the old school way again. Hunsaker fuel jugs are more comfortable to hold, pour quicker and don’t spill all over the place.  With the current $40 sale price on the 5-gallon model, there is no excuse not to own at least one.
