ARCTIC CAT PROWLER 500

The two-seat Prowler 500 is a recreation machine that is ideal for crowded work areas and tight trails. The fully automatic transmission makes it simple to drive, and the single-cylinder, 443cc, four-valve engine and selectable 2WD/4WD make it very capable in challenging terrain. Independent double-A-arm front and rear suspension offers a smooth ride. This machine’s 56.4-inch width lets it fit in most full-size pickups, eliminating the need for a trailer. The Prowler 500’s tilting bed can hold 500 pounds, and the machine will tow 1500 pounds.

Arctic Cat offers four accessory kits for the Prowler 500. The Adventure kit includes a roof, windshield, rear-view mirror and rear panel. CFMOTO ZFORCE 500 TRAIL

The CFMoto ZForce 500 Trail is a 50-inch-wide sport machine powered by a 38-horsepower, 495cc, single-cylinder engine. CFMOTO UFORCE 600

The 2022 CFMoto UForce 600 is the only 600 in our guide to machines under $10,000. This two-seat recreation machine has a 40-horsepower, 580cc, single-cylinder engine and fully automatic dual-range transmission. The UForce 600 is more roomy than most 500s, but its compact, 80.7-inch wheelbase and 63.5-inch width make it easy to maneuver on tight trails and crowded work sites. The 600 is CFMoto’s lowest-priced model, but its list of standard features include power steering, painted bodywork, 12-inch cast-aluminum wheels, roof, winch, bench seat with under-seat storage LED headlights, back-up lights and horn.

ARGO MAGNUM XF500

New for 2022, the Argo Magnum XF500 is a two-seat, 56.7-inch-wide recreation/utility UTV powered by a 443cc, 4-valve, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine. A dual-range automatic transmission makes it easy to drive, and selectable 2WD/4WD with locking front and rear differentials gives it impressive off-road capability and Turf mode. This compact machine fits in the bed of a full-size pickup.

Double-A-arm front and rear suspension with spring preload-adjustable shocks offers 7.5 inches of travel. The tilting bed can hold 500 pounds of cargo, there’s a storage compartment in the tailgate, and the bed comes with a bed mat. There’s more storage in the glove box and under the hood and seats.

The Magnum XF starts at $9999 and comes with steel wheels and green painted bodywork.

HISUN STRIKE 550

The Hisun Strike 550 is a 53.5-inch-wide, two-seat sport machine that is only 53.5 inches wide, giving it great maneuverability in tight woods and work sites. It also fits easily in a full-size pickup. The Strike 550 comes with more standard features than many brands’ special-edition models. A roof, windshield, mirrors, 26-inch tires on 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels, 3500-pound winch, turn signals and horn are standard equipment. The cargo bed can carry 350 pounds, more than some larger sport machines. The instrument display includes speedometer, tachometer, drive position and more. HONDA PIONEER 520

The Honda Pioneer 520 is an upgraded version of the Pioneer 500. It adds a tilting bed that can carry 450 pounds of cargo, a larger, more powerful 518cc engine, and 43cc larger than the 500s. This machine seats two and is 50 inches wide, so it’s ideal for width-restricted trails and tight work areas. It also fits easily in the bed of a full-sized pickup. Full of fuel, the Pioneer 500 weighs only 1065 pounds, so it has a light, agile feel. The Pioneer 520 has a belt-less, five-speed automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually with car-type paddle shifters. The transmission also provides predictable engine braking to all four wheels when in four-wheel drive. The drive system is selectable 2WD/4WD but not front differential lock. Longitudinal engine mounting orients the crankshaft front to back in the chassis, which route the flow of power straight to the wheels without any right-angle detours, reducing powertrain friction and putting more power to the ground.

This recreation utility UTV can tow 1000 pounds from its receiver-type hitch. Independent front and rear suspension with dual-rate springs and adjustable spring preload provide a comfortable, well-controlled ride. For convenience, the Pioneer 500’s side nets swing with the door. There is storage space under the seats and under the hood, and the cabin is surprisingly roomy for such a small vehicle. The Honda Pioneer 500 brings Honda quality to one of the most affordable recreation UTVs, and its geared, five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode has no drive belt. Kawasaki’s compact, affordable Mule SX is available in 2WD and 4WD models starting at $7799.
